Retroactively formatting citations in Microsoft Word

I am making edits to a document in Word that has citations indicated by numbered superscripts that correspond to a numbered list of sources. These were not created using the citation function in Word (or if they were, the version of the document I have no longer contains that formatting). My additions to this document contain new citations, which I have created using the citation function in Word. So the result is that I have a document that contains two separate citation lists that both start from number 1, and superscripts are not ordered numerically within the document. [more inside]

What is this mystery play?

Yesterday, I ran across the proverb "Great cry and little wool, as the devil said when he sheared the hogs," along with the explanation that this came from "an old mystery play, David and Abigail, based on 1 Samuel." Who is/was/are Virgil Kalyana Mittata Iordache? What are their quotes?

On goodreads, there is a page dedicated to fifteen looong quotes from a writer ostensibly named “Virgil Kalyana Mittata Iordache”. This writer exists nowhere else on the Internet. They are a complete mystery. It seems likely that VKMI is a pseudonym for some other writer, a bundle of misattributed content, or a deliberate puzzle. If anyone can help solve this mystery, whether by identifying the authors or sourcing the quotes, I’d be grateful. Thanks! [more inside]

Any way to resolve a ticket (inspection sticker) before court date?

When I moved to New York from Massachusetts and registered my car here, I was told at the DMV that my MA inspection sticker would be valid until it expired. Today I was pulled over by a cop and issued a citation for not having a NYS inspection sticker. He told me that I could go to court and tell the judge that I was misinformed and they’d probably waive the fine. [more inside]

This instead of telephoning because I can't look you in the voice

I'm adding this telegram from everyone's favorite Aunt Dorothy to an essay. I want to add citation of course. It's been a very long time since I've done this. I cannot find an original source for it and they all seem to link back to this post. Is it ok to link back to the Letters of Note post in my paper? It feels like I should be crediting Dorothy herself or something. This is the only item in the essay that needs citation. [more inside]

Source of well-known joke about statisticians?

There's a well-known joke about statisticians. "Did you hear the one one about the statistician who drowned trying to wade across the river? He knew it was three feet deep...on average." I've searched for a source for this joke on the internet, but haven't found one. Does anyone have any idea where this joke originated? Call me an academic, but I feel the need to attribute it if I can.

How to fight a ticket for blocking your own driveway in San Francisco?

i've been living in an apartment building in san francisco for 10 years and have a one-car garage. for much of that time i parked my car on the street, parallel to the curb, blocking my own driveway to some extent. i also had friends park there cars there, and when i had a rental car, i parked it there on and off for several months. no one ever got a ticket. a couple months ago i parked a friend's car there overnight and got a ticket. apparently someone had called in a complaint, although the car was extending only into my own driveway, and by a small amount at that. i protested the $98 ticket, saying that i was the driver and the only one authorized to call in a complaint, but it was denied. i have no idea who called in the complaint, and DPT will not give out that information. i plan to do an in-person hearing. has anyone successfully fought this sort of ticket? How do I reference old cartoons in Harvard style?

I'm writing the bibliography for my dissertation which is about the animation studio UPA. I need to cite a lot of theatrical cartoons from the 1950s, which I watched on youtube. This Site give intructions for citing youtube videos, but it seems like its referring to original youtube vids, not existing films. It says to list the username of the contributor as the author, and it feels wrong to credit a John Hubley cartoon to "liquidnature13". Do I need to give the cartoon's director, year of release, and studio, as well as the contributer's username and the year it was uploaded? If so, how should I format it? (I'm using the Harvard system)
