So in Chrome you can define short keywords to perform a search with the search engine of your choosing. If I type "am shoes" in the address field, it searches for shoes on amazon.com. However, some keywords are blocked, for example I can't use the prefix "gm"for google maps or "rt" for rotten tomatoes. As I transitioned from Opera which has no such restrictions, and having used these prefixes for a long time, I would like to keep using them. Anybody know how to circumvent these restrictions, or at least why they are in place?
My husband has a problem with his computer and we can’t figure it out. He has a PC with Windows 8.0. He’s having trouble with three specific programs (Chrome, Google Earth and iTunes). The three problems started at about the same time. Is this a problem with his PC or with the programs or something else? (details and pictures inside). [more inside]
I've decided to switch over completely to Google Chrome, and on my work laptop it's NBD. My home laptop, however, asks me EVERY DAMN TIME I START CHROME if I want to make it my default browser; clicking OK does nothing (Firefox is still the default). More inside... [more inside]
Now that SPOI's Youtube Options has gone subscription-only, what options are there for downloading Youtube videos in Chrome or Firefox? Userscripts.org seems to have finally bitten the dust, and the scripts it had were out of date.
I read a forum that uses emoticons a lot, and there is a specific one I'd like to hide. I don't mind the rest, so a solution that excludes/disables that single file would be preferred. However if there are only ways to hide them all, I'm open to that, too. I'd prefer solutions compatible with Chrome and OSX 10.9.2, but I use other browsers and operating systems as well, so all suggestions are helpful. [more inside]
Chrome in Mac OS X 10.9.2 is rendering some pages very strangely

Chrome Browser: When I'm in dev mode and have overrides enabled (for example: "iPhone - iOS 6 / 640x980 / Emulate touch events / CSS media: screen"), Chrome throws a black box over the upper left corner of the web page with status in red text (for example: "Overrides: User-Agent / Device Metrics / Touch / Media
") It is omnipresent and unnecessary. How do I turn that black box off? [more inside]
My Nexus 4 phone (running Android 4.4) has started insisting that when I want to share a page via Chrome, I HAVE to do it via email.
I've tried resetting defaults in Chrome and email, and uninstalling the updates, but it still keeps insisting if I want to share, I have to do it via email - whereas before, it'd allow me to decide which service to share to.
Any idea what else I can do ?!
Last week, I started getting errors whenever I tried to access the NASA Technical Reports Server
from Chrome. And after a few days of it working just fine in Safari, it started doing the damn thing in that browser as well. What's going on here? [more inside]
So my problem is that I sometimes stalk people on facebook - come on, I'm not the only one -.- - but don't want some people/things I checked on facebook to appear in my omnisearch bar in Chrome. So I tried to go to history to delete/clear only facebook data but apparently you can't select all facebook history at once and delete it. It might take a long time if I were to select each individual item to delete.
Is there a simple way to do this?
1. Highlight section of web page
3. See selected source code.
Firefox does this. Is there an add-on or technique for doing this in Chrome? Windows.
I apparently have bad or damaged Google Web Fonts installed on a Windows 7 machine. Fun fact, they are not in the Windows Fonts directory. Text is coming up gnarly, super aliased, big and chunky in both FireFox and Chrome as they appear to be loading a local cache of the font(s) as opposed to hitting Google for them. Where are they? How can I fix this? [more inside]
For the last few days, I've had trouble getting YouTube videos to play in my browser of choice, Firefox. Not even advertisements will load and I suddenly get the error message: "An error occured, please try again later." However, the video works perfectly in Chrome. [more inside]
One day I signed in to Chrome at my husband's office to check my Gmail. Now, whenever I go to that computer and launch Chrome (he uses Firefox), it remembers me -- I can tell because all of my bookmarks are in the bar at the top. I've tried signing out of Chrome, but it still happens. I considered hitting "Delete this user" under the Settings, but I'm afraid that will delete me from Chrome entirely (even on my own computer). Any ideas?
I like reading the blog Fosterhood
, but ever since I moved last week and got new internet from TWC (not sure if it has anything to do with it, but that's the timing) I'm only getting this on the loading page: "Not Found
The URL you requested could not be found." I can access material in archives that has been posted since the move so I think it's me and not the site. How do I fix it? [more inside]
Chrome won't let me access the Metafilter homepage--among other issues. I am not having this problem with Safari or Firefox. [more inside]
Why has Chrome decided to suddenly space out my bookmarks and context menus so much? How do I return to the proper spacing? [more inside]
I use Chrome at work, and usually open up the same set of five or six websites every day, multiple times a day. I do not store non-work-related bookmarks on this browser, so I have to load the sites up manually every time. Is there a simple, one-click method of opening up multiple bookmarks in Chrome without having those bookmarks saved in the browser? [more inside]
This has happened twice now, and it is freaky. Google chrome on the iMac I use in my office at work (at a university) will have usernames and passwords for people who have never been in my office ever. The first time it happened it was my father's email, and the second time it was my stepmother's. Why would chrome be filling in these odd emails when it doesn't even save my own login information after closing the browser window? [more inside]
Chrome on Lion 10.7.5 keeps closing while I'm in the midst of browsing, and it's driving me nuts. And it doesn't seem to think there's a problem with that. [more inside]
I was having trouble with my iMac computer lagging and one of the things I did was restart in Safe mode (holding down shift). It now seems to be ok. I also have mediocre vision so have resolution at 1280 x 800 as my usual preference. The Issue: since the safe boot, Chrome pages go to a white screen after a few seconds on most sites such as Facebook and Amazon among others. I see old posts on Google but no real fixes. I looked at many google help links like this
among others. Has anybody else had this problem? (Chrome does this when I change the view back to a more usual setting like 1344 x 840, for example. Any thoughts?

Please help me thwart the evil Adobe empire so that I can read the Valve Handbook for New Employees (and other .pdf files) on my Macbook again!
Recently, Adobe Reader told me an updated version was available. Obviously delusional, I went ahead and updated my perfectly-working 9.4 to the new version 10, and now I can no longer view pdf documents in Chrome (18.0.1025.163), my browser of choice. What now? [more inside]
Google Chrome incognito mode help. I have Chrome set up to start in incognito mode. However, it frequently seems to revert to standard mode. I have ruled out interference from other users. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it may be caused by spammy websites spawning new non-incogito windows. Is this likely to be the case, and if so, how do I stop it? I'm running Win7 home premium SP1.
Help! I deleted most of my Chrome bookmarks (imported from Firefox, a few months ago, but edited quite a bit) when I was trying to rename that Folder. Is it possible to recover? Some will be in history, but what a job. I had resorted to a google search for how to edit bookmark folders, and found something awkward using left click (actually control-click on the Mac), and thought I was deleting a character , and boom, whole folder gone. I'm on an Imac running OS 10.5.8, if that is relevant.
I used to love the old version of Tweetdeck for Chrome but really really don't get on with the new, updated, "better" version. Is there any way of still using the old version?
Are there any Firefox (or Chrome or Safari, I guess) add-ons that will allow me to make a blank tab that I can type text into? In other words, any extensions that will allow me to take notes inside FF rather than in another program?

How can I make sure Mailto links in Chrome (for Mac) open in Gmail and not my default mail client (Mail)? I've seen the official 'Send from Gmail' extension in the Chrome Webstore, but surely Chrome should support Gmail natively without the need for an extension?

Yes, I've tried forcing an unexpected reboot, but I can't access Google, Gmail, or Twitter. Weirdly, Microsoft.com, Hotmail, Facebook, and Bing (and obviously AskMe!) all load with no problem whatsoever. And it's only affecting this computer (the only OS X machine) on the network! [more inside]
Is there an equivalent plugin for Chrome that duplicates It's All Text
for Firefox? I use a browser a lot to enter complicated text into things like wikis and I need a full featured text editor for Chrome. I currently use It's All Text which lets me use vim to do everything that vim can do to the text in a text box but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for Chrome.
Can some kind Mefite please open and send me a .docx document as a Word doc, or PDF ? I've tried two online services with no luck, and since I'm running Chrome, I can't download the MS fix. In addition, I'm too inept to figure out the workaround. It's only a letter from the GSA
covering the Art In Architecture application process for artists, and since it IS a government agency, I want to make sure I haven't missed something stupid. My email is in my profile. Thanks in advance !
