Due to a very recent decision to cook Christmas Dinner (rib roast and Christmas Pudding) I need a quick version of an unsteamed pudding that I can make today and serve on Tuesday. Should be dark and succulent and fragrant. I am soaking the dried fruits in rum as I write this. Inventive Cooks please help me.

A couple of weeks ago, I moved out of my marital home (details in my posting history). Whilst I seem to be doing okay, most people expect me to not be. In fact, they seem to expect a fragility and sadness from me that I'm not feeling even remotely. This has lead to some judgements from people that I could have done without.
How can I navigate the sympathy of folks during the holiday season without having to pretend to be an emotional mess (which I'm not) and without suffering judgement from people who don't know the whole story (Which I can happily live without).

I’m currently based in Andalucía, Spain, teaching English for the school year, and am planning to visit neighboring France during Christmas vacation. France fascinates me and will be the first country I visit outside of Spain during my time in Europe, but to be honest: I know nothing. I have approximately 13 days to spend in the country, I would like to see Paris and a few other sites in the northwest, and I will probably enter the country on the Mediterranean coast (from Spain) and leave via the Basque Country (to return to Spain). What should I see?

Need help recalling the name of an obscure(?) Christmas movie. It had a boy and a girl who run away to see Santa Claus (in Lapland?) and they get in trouble with Santa and run away to a gingerbread house and (a la Hansel and Gretel) an old lady/witch puts the boy in a cage and tries to fatten him up so she can eat him but they kids push her into the oven (I think). It's all a bit hazy but I think it was from the late 80s, or possibly early 90s.

What are your favorite fictional holidays? This winter, my partner and I want to celebrate as many Christmas-like made-up holidays as possible. Our list includes Hogswatch (Discworld), Winter Veil (World of Warcraft), Crimbo (from Kingdom of Loathing), Festivus (which is increasingly less fictional), Life Day (from the Star Wars Christmas Special), and the Ice Festival (from Maria V. Snyder's fantasy books). Are there any more that we can add to our calendar?
