My 4.5 year old got to play with my friend's Ipod Touch, loved it, and is now adamant that Santa is bringing her one. This ain't going to happen. However, I would like to find her some kind of age-appropriate equivalent toy for Christmas. We don't do huge Christmas celebrations or massively expensive gift-giving, so this will be her big present, even if it's under $75. What can you recommend that won't make her ultra-disappointed (understanding that disappointment is a part of life, yadda yadda yadda)?

My school-aged children received some money for the holidays and decided to buy toys for needy kids instead of spending it on themselves. I took them shopping yesterday and, all told, they've got about $300 in toys to donate in addition to what I'm also kicking in. Now, what are we going to do with this stuff?

I feel guilty for not wanting to really "go all out" with Christmas decorating this year. I'll do the tree, of course, but every year I feel like doing less and less in terms of the "whole shebang"... My kids are basically "grown up" (ages 19 and 15) but I feel like I'll be letting them down if I do less than what's expected. The thought of totally getting into the decorating this year is exhausting. Can any other Mefites relate to this? And, if so, how did you deal with it?

Christmas gift help - I want to get my cousin's daughter a subscription to a Quebec or French magazine. She's 10 and a half years old, likes to read a lot, and has been in French immersion since kindergarten. Does anyone know of any french language magazines that would be good for her?
