CollegeFilter: How is one to choose without regret?

At the age of 24, I just completed my first year of undergraduate studies at a good public university. I am a strong student with a 4.0 GPA, but I feel that my interests are so broad and varied that I don't know how to narrow down on a specific path of study. Compound these problems with the ubiquitous financial and career concerns of the modern college student, and you have one confused student. How can I resolve this inner turmoil and structure a long-term plan that will bring me (at least some) peace of mind? [more inside]

Decent full-time first job vs. waiting for career-forming opportunities

Hi helpful friends! I asked you how to get this amazing entry-level marketing job a few weeks ago and it worked! Well...I have a third interview! Thanks so much and expect a "how to do well in group interviews" question later :) I'm a business management student majoring in marketing. I'm pretty lucky for a soon-to-be-graduate...I have a couple of very exciting opportunities that could really shape my career. However, I'm confused as to which way to go. [more inside]

What are some alternatives to going to college?

What are some options for a bright young man who wants to delay college? It can be volunteer-based, overseas, career ideas, special programs, alternate ideas of how to approach higher learning...anything. The main thing he wants is real-world experience outside of a classroom, something that will help him grow as a person and help him learn what he wants out of life. [more inside]

I have been out of a relationship for two years and working on myself emotionally, socially, and spiritually to clear out issues and limiting beliefs I have around dating and intimacy. Post bail-out: Good MPG Car from 2013

There is a good chance that I will be the owner of a new car sometime soon (like the next few months or so). Looking for a good balance between fuel efficiency and inexpensive to repair (something I have not really thought about until recently, regrettably). You are not a car expert, likely, but what would you advise from what you know? Details, including what this car replaces, inside. [more inside]

How to feel good about my financial independence?

This could come across as a stupid question to many people but I'd like to know how I can "feel & think better" about my financial independence from my partner. Sometimes I get a nagging feeling inside that I'd be a happier person if my partner just took care of everything and I didn't have to work so damn hard. I know I should embrace the fact that I have financial independence, am debt-free, good with money, savings and so on and feel good about being able to take care of myself. [more inside]

Solving life's problems - how do you do it?

Where do you turn for advice in solving life dilemmas? I know about therapy (been there, done that) and asking the hive mind (and you guys are great btw!) I love my family dearly but I feel like I know what they are going to say before I even ask. So tell me: -- where else can I turn for new, fresh advice on big life issues (career, jobs, relocating, relationships etc)? -- how can I really shake up my way of thinking and challenge my own perceptions? -- how can I help myself solve my own problems with needing to ask other people? hope that makes sense!

finding good student violins

My daughter has been taking violin lessons for about 5 years now. Her current violin was a beginner/student violin we bought from a music rental company in the northeast. Her instructor has recommended that we need to get a better violin for her, as she is progressing and is reaching the limits of this violin. Living in Maine, there aren't that many local outlets for reasonably priced/good quality student violins, so there are few options other than the internet. Please help me narrow down my choices. Choose my adventure: Bard retreat or Tufts advance?

Please be my crystal ball and tell me if I should get my MAT degree at Bard or Tufts University. I hate decisions in general, but in this case the financials are equal, I like both city and country, small settings and larger ones, and a longer haul seems only differently attractive than a short 1-year sprint, plus I probably can't break the tie by visiting. Is there life past iPhone?

I'm considering jumping ship from the iPhone. Android is the natural choice, but I'd love to hear from someone who went from iPhone to (gulp) non-smartphone!
