I am travelling to China from Canada in the near future. I have hundreds of questions and concerns but mostly just need reassurance that I'm not forgetting anything. Bonus, what should I do for carry-on?

I leave for a two week stay in China (Beijing), on Friday. I would like to take a laptop with me. I have heard however, that there is a significant risk of becoming infected with malware or spyware. Is this true? I will not have the laptop on me at all times.

We're now on our China trip (thanks for the tips in our last question,
), and are looking for specific suggestions on things to do in the Guilin area that weren't covered there. Extra points for off-the-beaten-path suggestions. We're definitely interested in beginner to intermediate hikes, bike rides, and boating. We also would love to see more rural sites, and the most spectacular scenery possible, but have been having trouble finding specific info on the area.

My boyfriend and I will be visiting my dad in China for two weeks at the end of October, beginning of November. I've been twice before (my dad has lived there for the past 12 years), but this will be my boyfriend's first time. We'd like a good mix of city and rural areas, and are tentatively planning four days in Shanghai, four in Beijing, four in Guilin, and four in Yunnan. However, we're open to other suggestions, so what do you think? Too much time in one place, not enough in another? Is there another must-see area? What should we do while we're in those places? Any ideas are welcome!

My husband and I really want to go to China, this fall or next fall. All of our Chinese friends strongly recommend that we take a tour, rather than just do it on our own as we normally do. But -- which tour company should we use? Who is reputable, affordable, and won't pack us in with a mob of 40-50?

I might possibly be going to Nanjing in July of this year and would love to stay with a family instead of a hotel. I will be there for two weeks and would be fine with paying or trading a service (perhaps teaching English or Spanish) for the stay. Does a site exist that might have listings like this or is there another way to seek this out?

I've got a six week sabbatical break from my job coming up, beginning in mid September. My plan is to fly to Hong Kong, and then spend some time travelling around Yunnan and Sichuan. I will be in China during the National Week holiday, which I gather is kind of a big deal in terms of hotels, planes, trains etc. Does anyone have any advice/tips on how to deal with it? Is it even going to be a problem, or will I just notice touristy places getting a little busier?

This is something of a follow up to
this question earlier this year.
I've spent most of the last year working in China but haven't moved yet. Question is, Shanghai or Beijing? It's basically my option. I've spent a lot of time in both cities and both have qualities I can appreciate.
What are your opinions, which city is more livable, and why.

I am trying to plan a 4 week trip back westbound on the Trans Siberian railway. I'm planning to travel through China via Shanghai from Osaka and then take the trans Siberian from Beijing. I'd love some advice on where I should stop over (I'm thinking maybe Mongolia, Irkutsk, Moscow and a stop in Eastern Europe) and what I should try and see and do in these places on my way back to London. Also, I'm on a budget of about $2000 is this enough?. I am arranging it all myself so any general advice/ experience would be very much appreciated.
