I'm looking for two books, one biology, one chemistry. They are related to GCSE, they say that on the front of the books, but I don't know if they're licensed. One has a green cover, one has a blue cover, but they both have pictures on the front. The good thing about these books is that they explain scientific concepts through diagrams in one-pagers, which are conveniently in both Chinese and English. Help me find these books? [more inside]

Let's say, theoretically, I am trying to provide a large quantity of children's books to a school in rural China.
Is there a reputable retailer / way of purchasing a large quantity of cheap/used children's books, written in the English language, within mainland China? Or would it be more feasible/cheaper to deliver such books over from another country? In the "other country" scenario, we can can think about either (1) where the books themselves have been donated, and so we are primarily worried about shipping, or (2) where we still have to purchase the books. What are some good books on Chinese economic development? Especially how it's beginning to transition from a low cost low skill manufacturing to more technology intensive commodities. [more inside]

Just wondering what the major book publishers are in Shanghai. I'm especially interested in presses that focus on literature, history, politics, serious non-fiction... I've been doing some research but was hoping someone more familiar with the media scene in China might be able to clue me in on the major or up-and-coming houses. Thanks.

I'm looking for books to read during a Los Angeles - Beijing flight. I have a guidebook and an abridged copy of Journey to the West
, and I would really like to read something more contemporary. Any suggestions? [more inside]

What are some good books about the history of China, up to say the Qing dynasty? I am particularly interested in the Warring States period up to the first empire. Extra credit for discussions of the spread of Buddhism.
