I'm looking for some kind of activity that will keep a group of roughly 15 kids, ages 3 to 12, entertained and interacting. I'm helping to provide child care for a monthly 'parent's night' at my church. Basically, the parents can drop their kids off, and we'll take care of the kids for 4 or 5 hours, freeing the adults to go out and have dinner, see a movie, have an adult conversation, etc. The problem is in the wide range of ages and the restrictions the parents have put on us ...

San Francisco RentFilter: Just had a kid and now me and wifey want to upgrade to a 2 bedroom. I'm worried a little about housing discrimination - it seems there's a financial incentive for landlords to avoid renting to new families. Is it legal for a landlord to ask a prospective tenant about kids? If so, how bad is it if the prospective tenant lied about it? Baby is a couple months old fyi.

I'd like to limit my daughter's time on the computer, not only by hours (as Windows offers in its parental control system), but also by session (so she could use it for, say, only an hour at a time, with a break between sessions). Ideas? Suggestions?

If you know you aren't going to have kids, what would you do to make your life awesome in other ways? Looking back, what would you recommend someone do in your 20s, 30s, and 40s, to happy later on in life (50s, 60s, and 70s) without having a family?

Help me find the name/author of a short story with the following plot:
human children are the work slaves of gremlins (goblins?), and made to do manual labor underground. Those with good behavior and who are getting older are "graduated" and told that they're being freed, but after a gremlin-only "ceremony," are killed for food instead.

Parent-filter: In our household we expect our toddler to eat the same food as we eat, or at least eat a certain number of bites before leaving the table. This is rewarded with dessert. For new or exotic things, we also expect them to 'try' the food before opting out. A close friend considers the above expectations to be 'forcing' a child to eat, and that it 'makes her sick to her stomach.' She instead suggests that the proper approach is to always have on hand foods that the child is known to like, and to provide these upon prompting.

I'm trying to remember a children's book. There is an explosive so powerful that a single grain of it would cause a huge blast. It is in the possession of a sinister person. Our tiny hero rides a bird, steals the explosive, and (spoiler) drops it in the ocean, where it detonates relatively harmlessly.

Husband and I were at a Farmer's Market for breakfast today, and thought we noticed an older man taking photos of children as they passed by. In the hustle and bustle of December 24th no one else seems to have caught it, and we felt kind of sick about the situation - there's no way of knowing the full details of why someone is taking pictures. But we notified a security guard, who said he'd keep an eye on it. The question is, in these kinds of scenarios is it always better to tell someone and risk making some innocent person's life miserable? We're a bit shaken up about it.
