My almost six-year-old son has fallen in love with the
Step In Time (youtube) ensemble dance scene from Mary Poppins. What other movies should we get for him? Remember, he's not quite six years old.

The other day my 13 year old received an application for a Discover Card in the mail. At the time, I dismissed it as junk mail. Trans Union mentions that receiving applications may be a sign of a problem, and even has a site related to the issue
here. While diving into a fraud investigation request for one application seems overkill, how common is this, and at what point does one start monitoring all this?

Looking for a very specific book of yoga positions for children - it was simply written and the illustrations were black ink line drawings on white paper, usually of young people and adults doing introductory yoga positions.
My mother used the book with my brother and myself regularly in the 1970s, but looking through the various kids' yoga books on Amazon now I'm not finding it. Anyone who grew up in the same era, or who raised kids in the same era, find this familiar?

Can anyone help my 8 year old daughter remember a particular children's book that made an impression on her?
I don't have much to go on, but the story seems to revolve around a boy (and possibly a dog) who live in a village(?) at a time when bombing is happening (suggesting WWII?). The boy spends a lot of time watching trains (skipping school to do so) and dreams of going to his grandmother's house until he eventually runs away on one after some problems at home (possibly involving the police).
While on the train he meets a family *on the top*(?) of the train and befriends a girl who is like a servant/slave to the family.
She thinks she read it in the last year or so and I guess it would be appropriate for her age.
Any ideas what the book might be?
Thanks in advance!
(note that I suspect the book is by a British author)

It may sound silly but I am desperately looking for DVD's of a kids show called Catscratch.
I emailed the network and haven't heard back. I can't find them for purchase, and they aren't available for downloading.
Any thoughts or ideas?

In a bid to prolong bed-time, my four-year-old just asked me, "What is electricity made of?' I told her to close her eyes and go to sleep, which has bought me 9-10 hours till she wakes me up and asks me the same question again. What's the most accurate answer I can give her that she will understand and not be bored by?

What are the best books for young kids? I have two nephews and a niece (two 1 year olds and a 5 1/2 year old), and I've resolved to get them books for their birthdays and other gifting holidays. I realize that makes me the lame aunt, but I think it's important to surround them with as many books as they can get their hands on!

I'm hoping to visit German or Austria in the summer of 2011 and would like my two children, aged five and eight, to enrol in a language course while we're there. The Internet isn't turning up much, at least on English language searches. Any ideas/recommendations for schools/locations would be gratefully received.

So I'm visiting my wife's family in Portland and just discovered that the electronics surplus wonderland known as "Wacky Willy's" went out of business several years ago. It was sort of like Archie McPhee's for Maker types. Are there other similar places that I can take my budding geek 12-year-old that are similar to Wacky Willy's?

I am looking for a book or a movie geared at younger kids (mine is 7), that would start a conversation about things not always being as they appear. Kinda like how toys on TV never end up to be as cool as they look, or how some people make promises that sound good, but they just don't deliver. I'd like to help my daughter start to develop the intelligence and skill set to truly discern the difference between substance and smoke.

Are there such things as Mutual Adoption Clubs as imagined in Aldous Huxley's novel,
Island? I'm looking for something like this, also similar to a Kibbutz or Co-op where a few families that are close friends live near each other (Sharing a house, being neighbors, living in the same apartment building, or maybe just in the same neighborhood). Families share child-rearing responsibilities primarily. Does anyone do this in a more-or-less structured fashion?
