I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant and am wanting to start some kind of muscle building exercise to help prepare me for (a hopefully unmedicated) childbirth. I have some health problems which place limitations on the types of exercise I can do.

Biochemistry Filter: I believe I have some kind of resistance/insensitivity to opioid painkillers, although I have not been able to verify that this is a medically known phenomenon. I am due to give birth soon, and I am concerned with the possible efficacy of drugs that may be administered for labor pain. Do you have any experience with this in yourself or others, or can you comment on the chemical plausibility of it?

How do you determine a hospital (and doctor's) c-section rates? Is there a database of this data available to the layperson? Do I just call all the local doctors? Send them a letter? Is there a state agency that would respond to this information request? Relevant states: South Carolina, North Carolina

There are a lot of iOS apps for timing contractions. The reviews are all over the place. Most of the apps do not seem to time the contractions from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next one, which seems to be the preferred data point for medical purposes. Other apps have other annoying features and problems. Which app did you use and how did it work?

I gave birth about 3 weeks ago to my first baby (yay!). Unfortunately, though, it was a very difficult delivery and I ended up with a third degree tear to my perineum. I am still in pain and was just wondering if others who had severe tears could let me know their recovery experiences and timelines.

Does anyone know of a book or article that might be of help to a child and his family (he will soon be 12) whose mother died at childbirth. He is the nephew of a dear friend, the boy really values family and as he is maturing, realizes more and more, that each birthday also marks the anniversary date of his mothers' death. He is was adopted by a paternal aunt and is being raised in a loving family. If anyone has suggestions on how best to support the boy and his family, it is much appreciated. If anyone has first hand experience with this, your knowledge would be much appreciated. The issue is clearly much bigger than his birthday, but is there any way to help him emotionally to deal with this reality as he matures.

My husband and I are expecting baby #1 in May. While the baby will be born in a hospital, I would like to have an unmedicated birth. My husband is being very supportive about this decision but is concerned about the amount of pain I will be in without medication.
While I realize all births and experiences are different, I would be interested to hear others experiences with natural birth and medicated birth, especially if you've experienced both and which choice were you happier with. Thank you in advance!
