What is the real definition of a "business day"?

Has my cheque gone through it's 5 business day holding period yet? I'm wanting to make an RSP contribution to my ING Direct bank account from my Royal Bank of Canada savings account before the deadline in < 4 hours.

The problem is that the money I wish to use was deposited into my Royal Bank account on February 25th, and they have a "5 business day" holding period.

It's been barely more than 5 days, but has it been 5 business days?
The bank is open on the weekend, but something tells me that isn't their definition of a business day. Is it?

Unsigned check

How can I deposit an unsigned check? As a gift, I received a check from a family member in the mail, but they forgot to sign it.
Is there something I can do so I can still deposit it?
Is there any way to do this without mailing it back to them to get it signed, or voiding it and asking for another one?

How can I cash a US$ cheque quickly in the UK? My bank has said it will take 3 weeks and will charge £15 per cheque (I have two for $3k each). Any ideas how to do this quicker (can't get new ones)?

How to cash a dollar cheque in a UK bank?

UK bank filter. I get small cheques from an Ameican tech publisher, drawn on an American bank., for dollar amounts. My UK bank wants to take 28 days to clear them, and deducts an unspecified amount to do it. Any recommendations for UK banks that are in the 21st century? (The tech publisher won't use Paypal; they say that their US authors, who are the majority, prefer cheques).

Can I ETF to the wrong name?

Banking Filter: Can I do an ETF if the bank account number is right but the name is wrong? Last year, I asked about cashing a cheque with the wrong name on it. Flash forward 12 months and I want to know what happens with electronic funds transfer in the same situation.

Google Adsense pays by cash and by ETF. The cheques have both my business name and personal name on them, so I have the choice of depositing to either a business or personal account. However, when you try to set up Adsense for an ETF, it only lists the business name as the account holder. Does this matter? Can I set up the ETF to go to my personal account, which is under my own name?

Thanks.

Check my cheque

What do I do if the wrong name is on a business cheque (check)? I run a small business and I met with a new client today. To my surprise, they gave me a cheque for the full amount of our project. (I was just expecting a deposit.) When I got home, I noticed that the cheque is made out to my company and not me.

For the past 8 or 10 years, all my business payments have been made out to me. However, about a year and a half ago, I formally registered my business under a name, although the only place I usually use that name is in contracts. This new client took the business name from the contract and used that for the cheque.

The problem is that, due to a complicated pregnancy and maternity leave, I haven't had a chance to set up a business account yet. All the work I've done in that time (a scant amount) has been made out to me, as opposed to my business, so I wasn't too worried. I was very busy with more pressing issues. And my accountant said it was silly to set up a bona fide business acccount when I only use my personal account for cashing cheques from clients anyway and a business account would be one more thing to track and pay for. (He said that the government doesn't care whether I have a business or personal account as long as I keep proper books.)

So...short of making an appointment with a bank and dragging my baby to the bank to open a new business account, is there any way I can cash this cheque? The contract does say my name d.b.a "ABC Company". I'm guessing the bank would refuse to cash the cheque unless I open a business account. But I honestly don't have much time to do that right now and I'd hate to pay for a business account when I am really not planning to do much work in the next year.

(Yes, I know I could call the client and ask them to re-issue the cheque in my own name, but that would look profoundly unprofessional.) Thanks.

Can I cash this French cheque in Canada and keep it in Euros?

Cashing a French cheque in Canada, or possibly in France... [more inside] I have a "cheque postal" from La Poste that I want to cash. Trouble is, I want it to stay in Euros. If I deposit it and then change it back to Euro funds I'll lose hundreds of dollars. If I wait until I go to France in February, I'll have to open an account there and I'm not sure that will be an easy thing to arrange (I am a British Citizen but I will only be in France for two months, so it may be hard to set up an account).

Has anyone ever opened a Euro funds account in Canada? What are the fees like? Ever cashed a Euro cheque in Canada? Can Western Union do it? Ever opened a French bank account? What's my best option?
