Should I try metronomic chemotherapy for my cat?

You are not my vet. However, I have seen a regular vet and a veterinary oncologist and now have some difficult choices to make and I would be very grateful for first hand accounts from people who have tried metronomic chemotherapy with their pet (especially cats) or other people's pets (if you're a vet or if you're close to someone who has gone through this sort of thing before). I am seeking advice and real-life experiences to supplement any advice regular vets or oncologists may give me. [more inside]

How do people enroll in foreign clinical trials?

I want to look into enrolling in an oncology clinical trial that is being conducted in Germany. The lead researcher indicated my being Canadian could be an issue because I would have to live in Germany for the duration of the trial (four months) and because I don't have German health insurance. I know people go to other countries to take part in clinical trials, but how do they do this if they lack health insurance in the country where the trial takes place? [more inside]

I am undergoing chemotherapy. It is very difficult to get marijuana.

My situation. About 2/3 months ago I happily said goodbye to a massive tumor I had apparently been gestating in my intestine. I am receiving FOLFOX chemotherapy. The primary thing that is keeping me functioning, working and being a parent is marijuana. Which I have to buy on the street to the tune of about 800 bucks a month. I have spoken to my oncologist. I have spoken to my pain management team. No one will help me get what I need: a prescription/license for pot and sufficient financial help or program to be able to afford it. Where in Ottawa can I be connected to a network or physician who can help me? And I mean now. I need someone to carry the water for me because I am somewhat shattered. [more inside]

Experiences with chemotherapy drug, Xeloda.

My father starts both radiation and chemotherapy tomorrow for colorectal cancer. For chemo, he has been prescribed Xeloda - which is taken orally. Can anyone share their experiences with this drug? It's noted that Xeloda is well-tolerated by patients, but I wondering what that exactly means in terms of real-life experience vs the pamphlets and website.

How can I help a friend who will be undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the next few months?

My friend's wife is recovering from breast cancer. They removed the tumor a couple weeks ago, and they found no sign that the cancer had spread to the lymph system. She's expected to make a full recovery. But in order to kill any remaining cancer cells, for the next 2 months she'll be undergoing chemotherapy, and then 1 month of radiation therapy afterwards. What can I do to make life easier and/or lift the spirits of her and her husband? [more inside]

Scheduling Chemo

My father was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and had about 1/2 of his colon removed. He's recovered well, but tests - done at the time of the surgery - revealed cancerous cells in three of his lymph nodes, so a course of chemotherapy has been scheduled.

Here's my question - the surgery was around Dec. 7th. The test results took over two weeks, and now there's a 5 or 6 week time lag between the positive test results and the scheduled chemo. Any opinions on whether this time lag is normal procedure? My worry is that my father - not one to be overly assertive in working the HMO system to get the best possible care - is getting less prompt or aggressive treatment than might be warranted.
