I'd love to learn more about how companies of, say, ~2000 people have organized their Slack implementations. Do you have one large Team for the entire community? Do you create new Teams as requested by different departments/divisions? Do you let users create them as needed without any intervention from your IT group? A mix of the two? In either case, do you use the free version. Standard? Plus? Do you employ LDAP integration and user provisioning or do you require each user to sign up for and create an account for Slack individually for each Team? [more inside]
I find myself wanting to chat with others. Both M and F. Without any sort of BS rules or tons of ads. I know chatroullette and omegle used to be the places to go, but they seem to have fallen to the ad markets. Is there anywhere someone can go who just wants to chat (and yes, perhaps engage in adult behavior)? And no bots or stupid robot ads?
I created a Slack account for my sub-team of 5 people a year ago. Now our larger team of 40 that consists of other sub-teams wants to use it too. We want all of our sub-team's chat history to remain just available to us. Because all of our chat history is in #general, I can’t make it into a private channel. What do I do now? [more inside]
I have the urge to flirt online. I don't want to do this via any real social channels, because those are all real people and I don't want to hurt any of them. [more inside]

A federal agency uses gmail as their email service provider. I use this federal version of gmail as part of my job and need to be able to find and reproduce gchat/gtalk/hangouts exchanges I've had with colleagues. Why is this so hard? Why. [more inside]
I have the urge to chat anonymously online. I've tried things like Omegle, which just seems filled with gross marketers, and I've tried Reddit, but had no success. So, I'd like to chat with people, but I don't know where to do this. What's the current Chatroullete, where do people go to chat with strangers?
Do you know of active irc/forum/slack/other channels for those of us who care for a relative at home? A space to vent and chat and just say 'out loud' that which you can't speak out loud.
By some estimates there are a billion chat messages sent per day worldwide. What are people doing in there? [more inside]
Is there a live chat anywhere where one can ask wide-ranging questions and elicit intelligent response in real time? MeFi Chat seems more conversational; I've tried crashing in to ask for help when stuck for a word or a fact (fleeting issues not worth posting to AskMeFi), but always feel a bit...crashy. I'm looking for a place where folks blast in and out with hot questions/issues. Paywalled chats (hey, anything to help filter out ditzy noise) would be fine.
I'm a fan of the text chat. I used to be active on local dial-up systems, and later IRC. Then somewhere along the line, about two decades ago, I pretty much quit all of that and got caught up in real life. Well, I want to go back. Only it seems like all the people I'd want to talk to online are gone. [more inside]
One of the reasons I like Facebook (don't kill me) is that it connects me with a lot of my friends near and far. For the past week, I've been posting questions that start off with "Because I'm curious…." which has resulted in a lot of great banter, but it also helps me to get to know people too. Help me come up with more questions. [more inside]
What is a chat/IM program, that doesn't require giving away personal details, such as either your google ID or your phone number, to the other party? Cross-platform (including Windows PC), like Viber, but I understand that program requires sharing phone numbers. So I want to live chat to someone, sometimes on android phone, sometimes on iPad, or iPhone, or Windows PC, and we have each others email addresses, but no more than that.
How does an online chat community (i.e. IRC, Slack) work best? How does it function and what is it good for? [more inside]
Sometime last year (or maybe the year before?) while browsing r/creepypms I came across a painfully hilarious (hilariously painful?) exchange between some folks probably on steam. I haven't been able to find it again and reddit is a total cluster when it comes to browsing history so I'm turning to you all for help. [more inside]
My company has been using Skype as a chat (1-1, Group), voice (1-1, Group), and occasional video group chat app. Screen sharing is also used occasionally. The problem is, it doesn't do any of those things particularly well, with tons of dropped calls / dropouts, lack of a directory of group chats, poor quality screen sharing. [more inside]

I am on facebook, pinterest and twitter, and I was wondering if random people can just look up my stuff that I have written or even my pictures. I'm not talking about people who are logged in and are following me or my friends. I just mean random strangers. Thanks.
As of very recently, I'm getting AIM messages not just opening up in AIM, but also in my Gmail. I want to receive the messages in AIM, but I do not want to them also to appear as an email in Gmail. How do I fix this? [more inside]
I have for some years participated in a genberal interest message board I enjoy, where people frequently post personal topics. My SO has changed a lot since I first started posting about him, but people still seem to be influenced by first impessions of him. Can I 'rehabilitate' them somehow? Should I even try to? Ideally, I need a windows client and/or browser interface, an android client, and an iOS client. I would like synchronization (to be able to change devices and continue conversation cleanly). I need a standard chat log. I would love the chat log to be on an online platform so it can be easily downloaded/forwarded/searched. [more inside]
Been communicating with a family member who prefers Facebook Chat to other forms of chat, and I would like to download the entire conversation to have the text at my disposal. I can scroll up and laboriously copy/paste, but this is tedious. Difficulties: 9 months of a pretty much every day conversation, going back to March of this year. Mac OS. [more inside]
Why does my Gmail tab continue blinking indicating I have an unread Google Talk window when I've already viewed it? It's been getting progressively worse for months, and I have several friends who have this same issue. The only way to get the tab to stop blinking is to open an email or something similar, which then "clears" the blinking name ("Steve says...") out of the tab. [more inside]
I have a job that currently bores me greatly, with lots of down time during the day. A coworker and I started texting during our workday recently, and I find it entertains me and passes the time, in addition to pushing a few of my other buttons. Unfortunately this relationship has gone a bit sour so I'm looking for a similar situation and I'm wondering if there's an easy solution. Special snowflake details inside. [more inside]
I'm starting a new job for a telecom giant at a call center and to make the most money I need to make sales. I have worked for a call center before, and I guess you could say I sold things, but I didn't really sell things. Where can I learn to sell? [more inside]
It's an old cry now - to get out of Google's claws. Mail, calendar and everything. However, I always find one thing missing. Chat is never talked about. As a matter of fact this one is the difficult most. You need to have added all those chat contacts and they in turn have had to added you(approved) you back, unlike email where you just need to fine an email and the receiver gets it unless you were specifically blocked. So, let's discuss how to release our chatting app/service free from the claws of Google/Facebook/Skype &c and still be able to: [more inside]
I have an extreme aversion to video chatting. I'm not looking to AskMeFi to fix that. I'm just looking for help in: 1. setting my iPhone 4 so I'm not invitable to FaceTime (it's too easy to accidentally hit the "accept/answer" button), optimally while maintaining the ability to invite others (in case of some sort of emergency need), and 2. figuring out how to make audio-only Skype calls (incoming and outgoing) using my iPhone's SKype or Skype-WI-FI app. [more inside]
I want to know why in Google Hangout it no longer says "Theirname is typing..." when the other person in the hangout is typing in the chat window (or "Theirname has entered text" when they've written something but haven't sent it). It's gone, and I miss it and want an explanation so I can move on with my life. [more inside]

Hi! I'm learning Spanish at the moment, using podcasts and LiveMocha, mostly. I try to speak it as much as possible when doing the LiveMocha exercises, listening to the podcast conversations, etc, but I realise that what's missing is real live conversation with others. [more inside]
Need help finding a new chat solution for a far-flung group. Our core group of friends is spread across the US and Canada. Part of what keeps us so close is the private chat room we've had for the last 10 years or so. Sadly, the current owner of this is shutting it down, and we need to find a new place to hang out. I've been tasked with finding the solution. To head off the inevitable question, no we can't take over the existing site, for multiple reasons that I don't want to go into. Currently we're using phpMyChat 0.14.5, hosted on a back alley page of the owner's primary site. Are newer versions of phpMyChat going to have similar features? And how do I get one? Needs/requirements inside... [more inside]
