Can a pregnant teen be expelled from a charter school?

Can an 13 year old be expelled from a charter school in Chicago because she is pregnant? I am asking for a friend, and I have very little detail. If the question isn't answerable on this meager basis, and resources about the laws and regulation governing Chicago charter schools would be appreciated. As far as I know, the pregnancy is the only reason for the expulsion (no other behavioral or academic issues in play) I've found some documentation that states that charter schools can make their own "codes of conduct", but is expulsion on this basis legal, given that charter schools are publicly funded?

charter school lotteries- bettering my odds?

Beating the lottery system for kindergarten slots in the top Washington DC charter schools- is this possible? I am moving to DC this summer- into a school district that appears to be dismal. I have a son entering Kindergarten. Normally, I would consider taking the plunge, rolling up my sleeves, and supporting the local school but, the DC schools are in such flux, with administrators and the mayor arguing over how to fix them, that I don't currently see a hopeful starting point for improvement.

I am looking at a few of the charter schools and some of them, it seems, have become very successful and popular- thus the lottery system. I am wondering if there are ways to better my chances- i.e. offering to organize special field trips or presentations- or volunteering in any number of ways.....

Does anyone have experience with this? I feel so helpless just sending in the forms and waiting to be lucky..

Help my local elementary school

Charter School/Voucher System Filter: Are they really tools to deconstruct public education? My district just lost 3,500 students to charters and other districts (mostly to charters). None have been lost from the very urban school where my kids go. However, as a result of this loss, our school is facing a 30% budget reduction, which I believe is devestating.

Is my local school being set up to go under and die? As a concerned parent, should I, and how could I fight this?
