How can I go about purchasing computers to donate to a school in a developing country? That is, a _specific_ school -- the woman in my life is in the Peace Corps, and one of her dreams since she's been there has been to find some way to update the ancient computers at the school where she teaches. (This goal is shared by local teachers and administrators at the school.) This sort of targeted giving seems to fall outside the scope of most charities I've looked into, such as
OLPC. Are there organizations suited to this kind of project, or which could offer advice on handling this (from the U.S.) as an individual? Is the latter remotely feasible? If so, what should I keep in mind, as far as insurance, taxes, shipping, customs, etc.?

When I was getting my Master's degree, my mentors suggested I continue on to a Ph.D. The application fees alone were enough to make me laugh, but a kind person paid those fees for me and I eventually was accepted into a program.
I've always wanted to pay this gift forward by helping to pay college-related fees for other aspiring students at my alma mater, and would like to do so in the name of the person who did this for me.

I need to find a website that would allow me to upload and sell photos that I'll be taking for a charity golf event. I don't need to sell them at a markup or anything, just make them available for sale. It would be nice if those interested in buying the photos didn't have to join the site or create an account, but that isn't mandatory. Do sites like snapfish or flickr allow such ease for guests to purchase prints?

Is there any way to help the people of Somalia? I understand that there is war and resentment of American aid but is there any way that I, as a (relatively) wealthy American, can give money or anything else to help less people die? Maybe a European charity or an anonymous fund? Inspired by this

How do we get a (music) celebrity to help promote an event in a YouTube-type video? Our community nonprofit is having a month-long event in June, and my daydream is to get some (recognizable) musician/band in a video that we could post on our very popular Facebook page. Ideally, he/she would say something like, "If I weren't on tour in [wherever] right now, I'd definitely be at [event name]! Don't miss it!" How do I even attempt this? I'm in a medium-sized city on the East Coast.

I would like to create a non-profit fund / fundraising org earmarked towards jumpstarting community centers. I've heard that rather than trying to create a non-profit, it might be best to partner with an existing non-profit with similar interests, and see if they'd "host" the fund I want to create / help with the legal aspects, while allowing me to earmark and oversee the fund. I intend to do regular fundraising, and hope to create a lasting fund that attracts bequests. Does anyone know about the legalities involved here? Any advice as to how I might want to approach such a project?

I'm in hotels all the time (about 16 nights a month), and it just occurred to me that those little bottles of shampoo and stuff could go to a better cause than just hanging in the room after I leave. Should I donate them to a homeless shelter or some other organization, or would they rather just have a check? Any specific places that are in need of toiletry supplies?
