I want something to protect my pants from bike grease. Holding the pant tight with a conventional pant-holding-device is not sufficient, I still get chain grease all over my right calf. [more inside]
I wear two pendants, each on 1mm silver snake chains (one 18-inch and one 20-inch) daily. They are always getting twisted together and I have to unravel them from one another a few times a day. Is there some hack or solution to this problem that I haven't considered? [more inside]
I have an 18 month old Trek 7.1FX hybrid bike ($450 new) that I use to commute 5 days, 120km per week. Should I spend half the cost of a new bike on a service, or put that towards a new bike? [more inside]
I have a Poulan 14" electric chain saw that I needed the chain replaced. In doing so I ended up practically taking the whole thing apart. I did find an exploded diagram and got it back together - however, the 2 long bolts that you loosen before you tighten the chain do not seem long enough for the nuts to screw on to. [more inside]

What is this thing? I saw it in a park in Lake County, Indiana, a few yards away from a small lake. There was another one a few yards away. I thought it might have to do with some sort of game, or maybe fishing (but there was another one a fair distance away from the lake.) It does not rotate. It's about five feet tall. Thanks.

I have telescopic dreams once in a while - dreaming something only to realise that I'm dreaming, "wake up" in another dream, then sometimes switching back to the first dream or "waking up" to another dream entirely. They freak me out quite a bit as I'm never quite sure if or when I'm really awake. Why do these dreams happen? Is anything the matter? [more inside]

Can you think of any examples of a retailer that has both a chain of physical stores and a "shop online" section? I've been helping out a friend who owns a knitting store with his website, and now that he's expanding I think we need to rethink the way his site works. I'm just wondering how other people organise things like stock levels when more than one physical location is involved. [more inside]

What's wrong with my bike- the chain or the gears? Or me? My three-year-old bike has always had, to one degree or another, a problem with slippage, in which the chain momentarily loses the gear teeth when I'm pushing especially hard on the pedals. Finally, this Sunday, the chain broke, after acting up especially bad and frequently going very slack when I was coasting. The question is, do I just need a nice new chain to fix my slippage problem, or is the problem with my gears? Do I need to replace them? Or am I just riding it too rough?

OK, I now know that money-maker chain-letter implementation is illegal, but my big question -- why? Is it for the protection of dumb people? I'd have to say the fact that it didn't work is the protection of dumb people, but shouldn't be illegal. [more inside]
