Is there a website that details how movie technical effects were done? I'd enjoy seeing photos, illustrations, descriptions of how special effects were created. Bonus question: what day of the week is best to ask metafilter in order to reach the highest number of potential answerers?

I saw a thread somewhere on a popular blog in the past year or so talking about how when the textures on the faces of video game characters (or possibly just CG) cross a line of looking too realistic, it actually causes people to dislike them or feel uncomfortable. Does anyone know what this is called, or can point me in the right direction to find out more?

Anyone else a fan of the TV adverts for Cartoon Network (by, I guess, Williams Street of Sealab 2021 and ATHF fame)? The new CG commercials are fun, and the old classics featured things like Shaggy doing a variation on the Whopper/Royale conversation from Pulp Fiction, and Johnny Bravo sitting around in Hopper's Nighthawks coffeeshop (having had his heart broken by Scooby Doo's Velma.) Hip stuff with obvious references aimed at adults. Can the adverts be found anywhere? Anyone want to sharez a link with me via e-mail? Thanks.
