Recently received child's birth certificate with wrong maiden name for me.... it just has my married name in the maiden name spot. Obviously this was a mistake. I am inclined not to fool with the time and expense of correcting it but I need a passport this year for my child. [more inside]

My husband was born at Mt. Sinai hospital NY and they were obviously my first call.
The medical records department say that they don't hold records for more than 10 years and my husband was born in 1966. Both his parents are dead and they were both only children, so there is no one in the family that we can ask.
Does anyone have any other ideas where the exact time of his birth could have been recorded? And how to go about finding out ? All suggestions welcome.

I'm looking for recommendations for a restaurant gift certificate to purchase for a friend living in Los Feliz in Los Angeles. Anywhere in LA is fine, but Los Feliz is preferred. I don't care if the place is super fancy or not, but the food should to be awesome and $100 would cover a couple's full meals plus a drink or two.

I have 2 large boxes of used clothing/shoes to ship to the US soon, and the post office employee told me the volume of items would definitely not pass the border unless I have a Certificate of Disinfection. Unfortunately, this document seems non-existent. There is NO information in Google, answers are always something along the lines of, "Ship it in several smaller boxes!"
or "Don't say it's clothing!"
which are avoiding the point: I am trying to do this by the book (legally).
Does anyone have experience with this particularly evasive document, or parameters that would let Customs determine the packages are okay?
Or another way I could *legally* ship the clothing to the US? [more inside]

I would like get a TESL certificate, move to Costa Rica, teach for 5-10 years, then retire there. From basic research, it appears that CELTA, Trinity and SIT are among the most credible facilities offering such certificates. However, I currently live in Los Angeles, CA and none of those programs are available within 100 miles. I have located two other venues in the area, the “Oxford Seminars” and “LC Coaching,” which are similar in content, price and duration. Can anyone speak to the quality of these programs, as compared to CELTA, Trinity, etc? Does anyone know of any better programs in the LA area for TESL training?

Looking to do a part-time urban planning masters degree or a certificate in the DC area. I'm looking at going back to school part-time (I currently work in the federal government in transportation), and I would like people's thoughts on area schools and their programs (Catholic vs UMaryland, etcetera).
Does anyone have positive or negative experiences (especially as a parttime student?), or can recommend any other area schools?
