I am planning a vacation and tortured by all the choices. I'm thinking of the Caribbean or Central America (but open to just about anyplace). I need help narrowing it down. The trip is for my husband, my 5 year old son and me. We'd be flying from Boston and going for a week. So much more inside...

Here in the US, I'm prescribed Adderall for ADHD. This summer, I'll be spending 2+ months doing a mentally taxing project in rural Guatemala. Help me figure out how to make this work. Bonus points for
any first-hand knowledge about ADHD treatment in Guatemala — legal aspects, practical aspects, whatever — or for any good sources to consult on the subject.

I'm hoping to spend a month somewhere in Latin America volunteering and studying Spanish-- where should I go? I'm leaning towards Xela, Guatemala, but open to other possibilities. Have you been to Xela and what do you think of it? Should I be worried about safety in Guatemala? Do you know a great social/economic justice-focused organization I could volunteer with elsewhere in Latin America?

I'd like to get some recommendations on travelling to Belize. I'm planning my first out-of-country trip ever from the US to Belize. I have never travelled outside of the country before and need some pointers on international travel in general and travelling to Belize specifically. I would like to stay on Caye Caulker and visit the
Great Blue Hole and a couple of cave systems. I'm perfectly happy lounging by the sea in a hammock with an umbrella drink, but I'd also like to do something fun or exciting I can only do in Belize.

It's Diamond time people. Where in the Americas could you find the best deal on a certified Diamond? South America? Central America?
Blue Nile? It's probably worth a flight to buy a diamond if it's thousands cheaper, no? Or do I just need to take matters

Does anyone remember a blog c. 2001-2002 purportedly written by a European woman hiding out in the Caribbean/Central America from the well-positioned family she had run away (and stolen) from? What was her pseudonym? What was the name of the blog? Is there any trace of this story (and any resolution on the question of its veracity) left on the web?

Help my partner and me find a place to take a well-deserved vacation in mid-March. We have a budget of about $1500 including flights. We are looking for something near a beach where it's warm, within flying distance of New York City but preferable outside the US. Something more upscale than a
straw hut in Dominica but less pre-determined than an
all-inclusive resort in Antigua. Bonus points for ecotourism and cultural memorability.

Taksi Putra has challenged me to a 'chili-off' in Central America (Mexico, Guatemala, Belize) this summer.
What should we eat and where?
Higher on the Scoville the better.
Anything east of Baja is fair game. If it sounds tasty and is super-hot, we'll hunt it down.

I was recently in Guatemala and I know that there and in most of Central America and many other third world countries you can't flush toilet paper because their septic systems can't handle it. What's the difference between our (More Developed Countries) septic systems and theirs (Less Developed Countries) that ours can handle it? Is it a matter of water flow, sanitation processes, etc?

What is the English teaching situation like in Latin America right now? I'm looking for something to do for July and about half of August, and I have a TEFL certificate and some experience. Other suggestions for spending worthwhile time down there welcome. Sidenote: I don't speak Spanish, but learning would be a big incentive for going.

My dad is turning 50 in May, and my mom wants to surprise him by taking the family on a cruise. I've always been of the opinion that the entire idea of a cruise is lame, boring, and for old people who can't do anything else. I'm trying to come up with better places to go for a week on $4000 (for four people), but I've only ever traveled by myself.

I'm going to Nicaragua this summer for the entire summer, and I'm looking for the cheapest way to get there from NYC or DC, to Managua. I'll leave near the end of May and return mid-August. Besides Expedia and the usual set of online price comparison engines, is there a good source for cheap fares abroad? (are there student discount places?)
