Can anyone recommend a phone for tethered EDGE data use with a PC, and basic voice calls? GSM, T-Mobile, Motorola preferred but not absolutely required. I've done some research but I'm a bit confused.

If it costs me, say, 2 cents a minute to call a landline in Europe and, say, 25 cents a minute to call a cell phone in that same city- why isn't there a service (in Europe) that allows me to call a landline which connects my call to a mobile phone (and charges me 5 cents a minute or a monthly charge or whatever) Or, is there?

My (non-existent) ideal device is a Treo -- with wifi, GSM/GPRS, and either EDGE or HSDPA -- on a service plan that includes flat-rate unlimited data, flat-rate international data roaming, and a small amount of voice usage inside the U.S. (say 100 mins/month). So, in the real world, is a Blackberry 8800 on T-Mobile my best choice for a plan starting in spring 2007?

I don't know anything about cellular providers in the UK, which is where I will be living for nine months starting this September. I need a phone in the UK, but I will also need one when I return to the US after nine months. I have a verizon cell phone right now, but I my two year agreement with them has expired, so I can cancel without being charged a termination fee. What are my best/least expensive options?

Is there a way to have two cell phone accounts on one phone? To make things more complicated, I'm talking specifically about combining a Nextel account and a Cingular account -- which I believe operate on seperate protocols. Is there hardware that supports this? I'd want to be able to have both accounts active at the same time, and if I were on a call using one, and received a call on the other, the other would get pushed to voicemail.

A very good friend of mine had her cellular telephone stolen the other day, and by the time she noticed this and reported the theft to T-Mobile, the thief had made many hundreds of dollars worth of calls to a foreign nation. After many calls back and forth, T-Mobile says they are doing her a great favor by waiving 25% of the costs but she is responsible for the rest. Is this right? Why would they treat a supposedly valued customer of several years this way? The T-Mobile reps tell her there is no appeal process or ombudsman; does anyone know if this is really true?
