I currently live in Iceland but I'm immigrating to the US this summer. I have a cell phone that I'm quite attached to (
Nokia 2650) and would like to be able to use it in the US (I'm moving to NYC or Boston, if that matters any). Googling for info has told me that this is impossible. Is there something I can do or will have to resign myself to getting another handset when I've moved to the US?

I have a cellphone contract with J-Phone in Tokyo that just renewed itself for another year. The problem with that is that I'm no longer in Tokyo. The English J-Phone website says I must report in person to cancel my contract. This is not a possibility. Is there another option I have for canceling this contract?

I have a Treo 600. I was using Mac OSX Palm HotSync to sync the phone, and started to have some problems here and there. Went ahead and set up Apple's Isync to handle the task, and now my Palm "To Do" list does not sync in the process. Anyone know what gives or how to get my "To Do" to sync via Isync?

European disposable mobile phones: My parents, who are American, are going to Edinburgh, London & Paris later this week. They've asked me what I know about disposable/rentable phones since their phones won't work over there. I know nothing. So now I'm asking all of you: What do you know about good deals on disposable/rentable phones in the UK & France? (I believe they're looking to use the phones for a period of 7-10 days, and if it makes things simpler I think they are willing to do without during the French portion of the trip if necessary)

cellphonefilter: I recently purchased a Sony Ericsson T637, and was unhappy to find that it does not have a standard 2.5 mm headset adapter, but rather some proprietary thing. According to SE's site, my only choices are a few cheap earbud/dangly microphone sets or an expensive Bluetooth one. [contemplating my options inside]

There exist cell phones (or plug-in headsets, maybe) that you put on your hand and use just by making the international "talking on the phone" sign. When I asked a friend who's been to Japan about them today, he said he'd seen them on the streets several times, and not just by children or the like. What're they called?

Cell phone question. Got an LG from Verizon -- but I suck at typing on phones, and the thought of entering the umpteen dozens of contacts I have has scared me from entering all but a few.
When I was on T-Mobile, you could add contacts online. Is there any quick and easy way for me to do something like this? I just want to type them, since it would take me six and a half years to enter them manually.

I remember reading a few years (months? internet time is odd) back about devices that you could use to convert your cell phone so it could hook into your home phone system. I'm not using my land line very much except for my ReplayTV to dial up at night. Has anyone used one of these devices or can someone offer another solution? This Replay can't use my ethernet without major reconstructive surgery.

I want to send instant messages with the option of using an actual phone, I want it to be as cheap as possible, and I'd like to be with Cingular. The hiptop has arched my brow since it came out, but I'm not sure I'd like being on T-Mobile's network. Any thoughts?

I got a new cell phone, and my old one was deactivated and handed back to me. Is there any way to make an orphaned, numberless Nokia useful again (for when Sprint's coverage fades, like it has all this weekend) without signing a contract for a monthly fee? TracFone makes you buy a new phone, which is the opposite of what I'm looking for. Prepaid long distance cards seem to be only for land lines. Am I missing the magic google search term?

I've upgraded
my mobile phone and now have the option of using polyphonic ringtones. The ringtones that come stock with the phone are cute and all, but I'd like to have some more options. A Google search for
ringtones pulls a ton of sites, but many of them seem just too sketchy. Do any of you have ringtone sites you'd recommend? And have you made your own, possibly from converted Mp3s?
