We are going to Spain for 4 weeks, and need advice on cellphone use.
We need to communicate w/each other when we are there. Should we switch to a local sim card? get temp phones?
My present service plan is Verizon.
Long distance Credo.

Do you trust third-party batteries for your cellphone? Specifically I'm thinking about picking up some spare batteries for the HTC Evo, but I've been a non-removable battery phone user for so long that I don't know if I really should stick to the manufacturer's branded batteries or can safely save some money and look elsewhere (like a Seidio, for example).

I'm a Canadian planning a trip to the Disney World this fall. My current cell phone has ridiculous roaming rates, so I won't be bringing it with me. I live very close to the border, and thought I would go over the border and buy a cheap prepaid phone a few weeks before my trip, so that I can activate it, and give the number out to people before I go. Is this a good idea? [more inside]

I'm travelling through the UK, France, Germany, and Austria for a couple of weeks and need a cell phone. I don't want to pay the roaming fees AT&T would charge. Should I a) rent a cell phone in Europe or b) buy a prepaid one? Should I do this once for the trip, or switch each time I change countries? Should I be switching SIM cards? I want the easiest option that's not too expensive. Thanks.

I'm considering upgrading my cell-phone this summer. All I want is something that I can use to make phone calls, take pictures, and send/receive e-mails and the occasional text message. And I want a full QWERTY keypad with actual keys, no touchscreen.
I was considering getting a Blackberry, but I understand that service plans can get expensive. Any suggestions? [more inside]

Another ditch-the-cell-phone-bill/Google Voice question: Google Voice made me give them my cell phone number (800-OLD-CELL) when I signed up, and then assigned me a new number (800-GGL-VOIC). However, I don't have calls forwarded from the Google Voice number to my actual cell phone - Instead, everything goes to voicemail. What happens if I cancel my old cell phone number? [more inside]

I'm going to Spain for a bit and want, if possible, to get a pay-as-you-go Spainish sim card for my (unlocked) iPhone that will allow me to use data at a reasonable price. Does anyone know if such a product exists in Spain? I don't speak Spanish so bonus points if it's possible to buy one over the internet and have it shipped to me in the UK (though I know that's unlikely)... [more inside]

A friend lost her phone (ordinary cell, not smart) in Europe (Greece) and is distraught (has no money to speak of). I told her I'd send her one of my old ones, but the chances of getting it to work there (and finding charger) are slim, I suppose. I want to buy a new one and just send over and not worry. However, I don't want her to know it's "new." She'd freak. So.
What's the easiest, not terribly expensive, non U.S.-centric option? Any other insight greatly appreciated. (I'm obviously not cell phone-savvy and yes, I googled, but got flummoxed). many thanks.

My lady has AT&T cellular with internet capability. She also has a very nice laptop, thanks to me.
She live in remote Idaho and has no internet options other than dialup.
Can she use her phone to power her laptop? I'm good with computers but know nothing about cellphones. Can this be done?
What connectors, etc might she need? Basic, decent speed web access would be all she needs. As she has nothing now to her laptop, I don't think that download limits would be a problem. Just typical surfing with video and audio.
Can she port the phone access to a wireless connection to her laptop?
If you come up with a reasonable solution, I will probably get laid. Hah! No, I actually just love her and would like to expand her world.
