iPhone Killers?

Are there any cellphone MP3 players that let you set an mp3 as a ringtone? I'm thinking of replacing my cellphone and mp3 player, but I refuse to buy a combo device that won't let me set an mp3 as a ringtone, because that's insane. I also want to be able to buy an unlocked handset and use it with whatever provider I want, rather then being a slave. (Can you tell I really don't like the cellphone industry?) [more inside]

PDA filter

Okay, so I'm looking for a small PDA that can run Java, preferably Java SE, and has WiFi.

cellfilter

I'd like to get a friend of mine a new Cellphone for Christmas, since the one she has no longer works properly. Is it possible to buy her a phone such that she could just swap her old phone out with the new one, keeping the same account? She has some sort of contract-free account with Cingular under the AT&T wireless brand (more on that inside), and I don't think that her phone uses a SIM card. [more inside]
