I'd like to buy a phone for around $250 or less that I can use now as well as with a new SIM card from an Israeli carrier when I move there this fall. Would the Moto G4 Plus allow me to do that? Is that a decent option? An older iPhone? Other? I'm open to anything Android or iOS, as long as I can post to Instagram and play Pokemon Go. :)
Ms. Zombiedance's Samsung Galaxy SIII has recently died, and she's looking to replace it. She was happy with the Galaxy up until it stopped working, but the fact that it lasted only 3 years makes her hesitant to buy another Samsung (say, a newer Galaxy). Are there significant differences in reliability among Android phone brands, and if so, are there particular brands/models that are more reliable? [more inside]
I have a DROID Mini that I need to replace. I like the back button on the left and the active display, so I am leaning towards a Motorola phone. I am on Verizon, so that limits my choices. I want a good battery, decent camera, durability and price <$400. I mostly use my phone for email, text, web surfing, photos. I am nervous about buying a used phone since I plan to keep it for 2-3 years. I do not like the huge phones, but that seems to be the only option. I definitely need to be able to use it one-handed. What do you recommend? [more inside]
Every time I try to log in to Tinder I get asked to enter my phone number for a verification code. And every single time after I enter my number I get the same error: "there was a problem getting your code. Please try again". I have looked through Google and tried various "fixes" for this problem but none have worked for me. I'm hoping the super-geniuses in the Hive Mind can help me. My phone is a QUE 5.0 running Android 4.4.2. My service is through Net10 (which uses AT&T towers).
A friend of mine has given me their old Samsung Galaxy S3. Yay! It is locked and the carrier won't unlock it without forcing a fee to be paid. Boo! [more inside]
I have a new-old Droid 3 (bought new, only started using it recently) and it's not holding a charge very long, even when I'm not actively doing anything with it (it can drop from 100% to 70% over night). I looked at its battery usage, and the bundled apps that I didn't want or use were using a lot of battery (YouTube was the worst, at 27%). Should I try some cellphone management apps (examples), get a new battery, root it to uninstall bundled apps I don't want or need, or root it to run a custom OS? [more inside]
I've had a Huawei u8651s for a few months now. It won't let me download or install apps. With the unlimited data plan I have as of today, this is now vexing me. Can anyone help? [more inside]
My wife's Nexus 4 has died (due to an accident) and we are looking for a replacement. The Nexus 5 would be the obvious choice but is out of stock in the Play store (and given that the Nexus 6 has been announced may not be coming back). What should she get? [more inside]
I want to get a pre-paid android phone asap (for a trip), but I also want to be able to use it at home and my house is at the bottom of a hill and has no to poor coverage. I'm thinking that wi-fi calling may be a solution. [more inside]
This is idiotic, I realize. How do I hold my Samsung S4 up to my face, for phone calls, without mashing random touch-screen buttons? Every time I use it in that way, I end up pushing things inadvertently with my cheek. I think it's very likely that I'm doing something wrong.
I have a Samsung I200. I like it well enough, but it doesn't have much on-board storage (4 gigs). I recently put a 16GB card into it to increase storage. However, I'm still running into problems with having enough space. [more inside]

In a vain attempt at not spending lots of money, I attempted to replace a cracked screen on my Galaxy S3 and managed to make it way worse. I've managed to borrow a phone for a few weeks until I can afford to get it fixed properly but it's a Blackberry! I've had an Android phone for the last few years so am used to being able to being able to have a wide choice of free apps. Once I get over the shock of being so limited, what apps to I need? I can't even find a podcast app... It's a Blackberry 9900 and I'm in the UK. Thanks in advance.
I've had my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S Blaze) for about a year and a half, and it is no longer under warranty. Recently, it has developed two problems relating to aspects of the hardware. I need to determine if I (a person with little to no experience with fixing electronics) can fix these problems inexpensively, or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a new phone. (I'm a student, so buying a new phone after less than two years is not something that makes my wallet happy.) [more inside]

I'm searching for a lowkey unobtrusive but interesting ringtone that won't draw looks of ire from those around me. I know this has been covered on ask.mefi before (in 2006), and, indeed, I ended up with one of those ringtones on a long ago now dead phone. But six years later, most of those links are dead, and we've moved from RAZRs to iPhones and Androids. So what's the latest and greatest in non-annoying ringy-dingys for our phones? [more inside]

My Palm Pre recently gave up the ghost 2 years into a 3 year contract with Bell Canada. I'd like to get a new Android phone with a good physical keyboard and a touchscreen. I'm not looking for specific phone suggestions, but places to do research: How do I know what models will work with bell, can I buy them away from bell and then use them with my existing plan, what sites have reliable reviews and what are just churning them out for a quick turnover. I have one of the first Android cellphones that I recently rooted using SuperOneClick so that I could install Wireless Tether. I did not install a new ROM. I now want to sell this phone and I'm wondering, if I perform a factory reset, will that "unroot" it also? I'd like to advertise the phone as being rooted and having Wireless Tether on it, but I also need to remove all the personal info stored on it. What is the best way to keep it rooted but also wipe out all my stored passwords, pictures, etc. ? If it matters, it's a Tmobile MyTouch 3G. Thanks in advance!
What's the state of the art in quad-band capable Android smartphones? Essentially I'm looking for alternatives with capabilities similar to the Motorola Atrix 4G. It needs to be carrier unlocked and support 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM 2G functions and 2100MHz WCDMA. [more inside]

Now that the Verizon iPhone is official, I'm going to be counting down the days until February 10th. I'd like your tips/advice/anecdotes about switching from Android to iPhone. [more inside]
I hardly talk on the phone any more, when I do it's usually only a few minutes (last bill I used 60 of an available 500). So I could probably make do with a prepaid plan. However, I use data all the time; email, Google calendar, etc. Now many people out there have put the iPad data plan to use in assorted Android phones, granted that was before the AT&T unlimited cutoff. But has anyone done it after? Split voice and data to two devices? Is the slight hassle worth it? I'd use google voice to direct calls and such, wifi at work, home, many places I frequent so I'm not to worried about going over the 2 GB limit. Anyone out there with first hand experience?
