I will be going to Thailand for most of the month of January and I was wondering if anyone could recomend a cell phone provider for the month that I could use to call back home to the states. I would like to be able to talk for roughly 10-20 hours and spend less than $100 (including the phone) if possible.

Where can I download ringtones that sound like actual "ring tones"? I don't want Black Eyed Peas or Justin Timberlake. A beeping or a ringing sound will do. I can't believe how difficult this has been to find.
Thanks.

I've assassinated two Blackberry 7105 devices, and it's obvious I can't get out of carrying one. But my boss graciously did not make me pay for them, and I'll actually feel bad if I break the new one. Can the MeFi digerati recommend a protective carrying case?

I got a new job and it is quickly becoming apparent I need a PDA to get organized. At the same time, the last thing I want is something else to carry around as I need to keep a cell phone on me at work. Consequently, I went to the store to look at PDA/phone combinations. However, I didn't realize how many different types there are. So, instead of listening to somebody trying to sell me the newest version of x,y,z, I beseath thee for thy wisdom.

I broke my brand new (Cingular) Razr and am going to have to buckle down and pay full retail to replace it. Everyone seems to complain about that phone (though I had no problems), so if I'm going to have to pay retail, I might as well get something better. Like what?

Cingular has announced it will now charge all customers not using a GSM phone $5/month, beginning in September. How can I tell if my (several years old) phone is GSM? I'd ask the nice people at the Cingular store but suspect they will be too busy plying me with new fancy phones to give me an honest answer.

I'm looking to take over someone's Verizon Family Plan cell contract (preferably one that has less than 6 months to go). Is there a popular/effective website where folks who want to get out of their cell contracts can meet folks who are interested in taking them over? This seems like a nobrainer to those who don't want to pay a cancellation fee due to circumstances in their life. And if anyone knows anyone who is trying to get out of a verizon family plan, send them my way! Thanks!

My Sony w600i jumped 2 feet off an aquarium and cracked it's screen and has bled through. The display is totally useless and now the phone is acting up (dropping calls, static, etc.) I finally found this phone after major trouble with Blackberry and Motorolas. It was definately my favorite phone in my cell phone tenure. I now need a phone and don't want to pay 200-300 dollars (again) for a phone. I'm locked in a contact to the upgrade with a rebate is out of the question. Are there any stores online that I can find good deals on cell phones? What durable, simple frills phone would you recommend? I'm tired of spending good money and then either ruining it myself or having the phone go schizo on its own.

I've never had a landline -- just a mobile for the past decade. I got married last year, and the little lady has a landline. We need one where we live, since there's no mobile service. So I forward my calls to the home line when I'm home. The problem is that if I don't answer the phone, the voice mail service doesn't work. How can I make these two work together?

I have been tethered to my SonyEricsson phones ever since I found the automatic profile switching in the Calendar preferences. Now, I sync my phone with my Powerbook, and my phone is always on silent when it needs to be. BUT...
I'm interested in possibly moving to a new phone brand, something with a very thin model. I like the Motorola iTunes phone that just came out, but as far as I know, Moto doesn't have anything like the feature I'm talking about. This isn't a feature that's widely touted for SonyEricsson phones, so I suspect there might be a couple other manufacturers out there that have this feature but it's not well-known.
I may just have to wait for Apple to come out with a phone. I'm sure it will happen, especially if they enter the MVNO arena.

I need to buy a new cell phone. It should have a text keyboard, work with a higher-speed EDGE/GSM network and most of all sync (address & calendar) +
act as a bluetooth modem for my Powerbook. That last bit is a problem apparently: I am having trouble finding good actual info on which phones can do this.

I have a Nokia cell phone with Cingular service. My two-year contract is up, thank goodness, and I'd like to switch from Cingular's cheapest monthly plan (which has more minutes than I can use) to a pay-as-you-go card. What I want to know is, can I do that while keeping my old cell phone and number? And if so, how?

I'm fed up with my Treo 650 crashing all the damn time. Please recommend for me a new RELIABLE phone/device I can sync with Mac OS X that will hold my contacts, email and let me take notes; and also work on Cingular, so I don't have to break my 2-year contract. Bluetooth is a major plus. Web browsing is nice, but not necessary. Please show your work.
