I’ve never had to buy my own phone or cell plan before -- it’s always been through an employer. I know the phone I want, and I want to get the best value on it and a suitable service plan. I have a strawman. Is it the right idea? [more inside]
We're holidaying soon, and I'd like to get a local sim card to make life a little easier. We're spending most of our time in the UK, but will also be visiting Paris, Vienna, Prague and Berlin. Are there any good options that would cover the lot?
This seems like an obvious question but the internet is being surprisingly non-informative and what information I can find seems to be several years old. I will be travelling for about 1 month. I have a totally unlocked iPhone 6s purchased in the UK. Can I walk into a store in the US when I arrive, buy a pre-paid nano sim with a data allowance, and stick it in my phone and use it? I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan on Verizon. I use <1GB of data a month, and I'm paying $90/mo for it. I should go to an MVNO, right? Help me wade through the details. [more inside]
There are plenty of tools to help someone build and customize a website without needing to know coding; Wix, Serif, Network Solutions and Go Daddy website builders. Likewise, are there similar tools to help someone build and easily customize mobile apps without knowing code? If so, what and where are they?
I just got an invite for the new OnePlus One X phone, and I have three days to decide. Per this article, the phone uses AT&T's HSPA network, which results in slower downloads and uploads than LTE. However, I use Cricket Wireless which is slow anyway. Would I notice the difference?
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I wondered. Why don't cell phones and other chargeable electronics charge multiple small batteries in parallel? The analogy is like this: * I have one cell phone with a large battery that takes 3 hours to charge. * I have three cell phones with small batteries that take 1 hour to charge. Why can't cell phones just have 3 smaller batteries and charge them all at the same time, and therefore make the charging faster?
My dog was diagnosed via fine needle aspiration with a mast cell tumor. It is on his left lateral flank. We are scheduled to have it removed and biopsied tomorrow. However, this is our regular vet. Should we halt this and consult an oncologist or specialist first? Or should we proceed and wait till we get the results of the biopsy?

My husband recently irreparably damaged his cheap Verizon phone and wants to get a new dumbphone to use on a Verizon contract. We don't have any upgrades available. Though I'm excited that there's a chance my ED (Erectile Dysfunction)—which was caused by venous leakage which mysteriously and suddenly occurred in my teens—can be controlled with Cialis, I'm scared to go on it due to bad experiences with meds in the past. Could someone who's been on Cialis, Viagra, etc. chime in? Would love to hear what people's experiences on it have been before 'taking the plunge.' [more inside]
We are working on simple machine language in computer science for data manipulation. All the other problems I have gotten through but this last one. Here is the problem: "Write a short program in machine language to perform requested activity. Assume the program is placed in memory starting at address 00- -If the value stored in memory location 44 is 00, then place the value 01 in memory location 46; otherwise, put the value FF in memory location 46." Due to limited mobility from a disability, I'm forced to rely strictly on voice commands to control a cell phone. Over the years, trying to find a solution for reliable hands free functionality in this area has been challenging. Anyone familiar with voice recognition in the past knows the capricious, quirky nature of the beast. It can be VERY frustrating and almost comical at times. Anyway, with today's processing speeds and the advent of Siri and Google Now, I can happily say that it's almost there for me. In fact, I give a 90% approval rating for recent experiences with the latest Iphone and Android products. The biggest obstacle now has been the necessity to hit the home button to trigger the lovely Siri. This last hindrance was overcome by none other than Google with their release of the Moto X -- which waits in standby mode listening for your command. I was so excited by all the reviews that I rushed out to buy my own. It turned out fantastically, but (and there's always a butt in these things) it came with another quirky disappointment. And this one is kind of surprising: The damn thing won't answer incoming calls by voice. I've looked thru all the settings and searched high and low for an app but to no avail. The closest I've come is an app that auto answers after one ring, but who wants that? What if I'm trying to dodge the ex-gf. Lol. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are older phones or phones designed for poorer countries any less susceptible to spying than the latest Apple, Google or Android models? I've read about CEO's looking for the very old brick phones because since they don't have the sophisticated technology of the modern phones, they're harder to monitor or track. I understand the phones w/o apps are clearly more secure regarding third parties because they aren't sending personal data to companies. But what the government and everything else; voice, location via cell towers, SMS; the very basics.
I previously had an android phone and was doing the t-mobile unlimited talk/text/data for $50 a month. Now I have a used iPhone 4s. I've never used anything made by Apple before so I'm a bit confused. From some research, it appears that data network is different and doesn't support 4g the same way so the t-mobile thing I was doing may not be the best way to go? Anyway, does anyone know what is the best deal for a (preferably) prepaid talk/text/data plan for the iphone 4s? Thanks!
My iPhone was stolen and I need to purchase a new one. I am considering saving myself the hassle of a craigslist interaction by purchasing a used one through an Amazon retailer. Has anyone done this? Would you recommend it? Anything I should look for specifically besides carrier compatibility etc.?

I have an old Palm Pre with a very shattered screen that probably doesn't power on anymore (I haven't gone near it since it shattered). What is the best way to recycle it? I live in Seattle and the city recycling does not accept e-waste. I know there are a number of places you can mail cell phones to be recycled but I'm very unclear on if they accept non-working cell phones with broken screens, etc. Anyone have personal experience with any of these services?
I need to port my Sprint phone number over to boost. Bills are out of control and I rue ever leaving Boost for a contract phone. I've been with Sprint over a year, but not long enough to finish out two-year contract. Yes--I know I will be on hook for early termination fee. My main worry is that I owe money to Sprint (phone is still on for a few more days). I want porting to go smoothly and I do not want to lose my cell phone number. I can do this tomorrow or later today. Just let me know what I need to do to port number smoothly. Thanks for your help.

I am looking for a simple, non-smart phone with the following features: * Long battery life * Bluetooth (to connect to a Parrot in the car) * Good speaker and microphone for hands-free * Low SARS rating This last point has been the hardest for me to find. For some reason, it seems that new smart phones have much lower SARS rating. I don't really care that it has a keyboard. I should also mention that I am in Europe so it needs to be 2G/3G/4G which I think is different from the States. Appreciate any help! I've been looking on CNET, Google and across the web without much luck...

Yesterday, when I called 911 twice after a car accident, I got an error message both times. (I don't remember what it was because I was probably in shock.)
