Looking for advice.
I have a great job, great quality of life, but no career potential whatsoever.
I want to move jobs and stay in my industry but have been told alternately: too expensive, not qualified or way-too-experienced-for-entry-level. Snowflake details (and tl:dr) inside. [more inside]

What we thought would be a simple ceiling fan install has turned in to a stumper. After removing the existing fixture and light box we find the lightweight brace for the previous light to be a pain to remove. [more inside]

I'm looking for a ceiling light fixture for my kitchen that has 5 or 6 (or more) cords coming from a central plate, each terminating in a light socket. The cords are long, say 6-8 feet, so that downlights can be hung as desired around the room.
I could probably custom fabricate this whole setup myself, but it would be great not to have to. Have you seen anything that looks like what I'm talking about? [more inside]

I'm hoping to hang a heavy sliding door system from the old lath and plaster ceiling. Are bolts screwed straight up into the wood going to be enough support--or will they just pull out?
All the information I can find on sliding, barn door style systems show the rail support being screwed into a wall. But I was able to buy some ceiling brackets, so that must be "another" way. I can't bolt from above, so: am I asking for trouble screwing straight up into the wood, and expecting the bolts to support a 10-foot track and two 4x8 doors?

I'm painting a wall dark blue and re-doing the ceiling in white. The place where wall and ceiling meet is very
uneven, and I'd like a nice clean line between the two. This seems to be a pretty common problem, and the standard solution seems to be creating a neat line somewhere other than the actual wall-ceiling joint. But some say paint the wall color up a bit onto the ceiling and some say paint the ceiling color down a bit onto the wall. Given the colors I'm dealing with, which will look better?

I just noticed what appeared to be a large water leak on the drywall of the ceiling. Upon further inspection, we discovered that somehow a large bottle of industrial strength bleach had leaked in the attic (please don't point out what a bad idea it is to store large bottles of industrial strength bleach in the attic... we had no idea it was up there and have never seen the bottle before tonight). I recently moved into a loft in a really nice building. One issue I'm up against is that I am not permitted to drill any holes in the walls or concrete ceiling.
I have been using the 3M Command strips and hooks and they work well for small things.
However, even the hooks rated for 3 lbs failed to hold my very light-weight surround speakers.
I also have a display case for my shot glass collection that weighs 21 lbs before even adding the glasses to it. I am thinking that may just have to live as a resting, rather than hanging, display.
But I would also like to hang a lightweight pendant style lamp over the area I've set up as my living room. The ceiling does have some concrete protrusions that extend down from it. Would some hardware like a C clamp be solid enough to hang something like that from? Other suggestions? And recommendations for hanging artwork besides the Command products?

I'm hunting for a ceiling light for my kitchen... I really like the way light tables look, and want to find one (2' x 3' or so, with a wooden frame, available in, or shippable to, Toronto) that I can invert and hang from my ceiling. Google has failed me. Help?
Note: doesn't actually have to be a light table. Could be a fixture that looks like a light table. That would be preferable, actually.

Advice on a ceiling leak/damage issue? We own a condo on the 2nd floor of a building.
A few weeks ago, we noticed a stain on the bathroom ceiling, getting bigger. We called the property manager, and he sent the groundskeeper up to have a look. The guy looked at the ceiling and was like "yep, it looks like there's a leak." Then he reached up and pushed on the ceiling with his fist, and it left an indentation in the ceiling because the ceiling had become soft. That was about 2 weeks ago. Since then we heard nothing. I'm finishing my house and want to install 3/4" bead board ceiling and in all the places that I look for install help and instruction(this old house, hgtv.com, oldhouseweb.com, etc) people are quoting $1-1.50/sq. foot. Does anyone know where in MN I can find quality 3/4" bead board ceiling for that price, everything i'm finding is $3-4 from specialty mills, and the stuff priced around $1/sq at the big box stores(Home Depot, Lowes and Menards) is for the thinner wall stuff, and is usually VERY poor quality with lots of knots.
I just watched this video at HGTV
and they put up some pretty nice looking stuff and quoted $1.50/sq I don't believe it one bit...
