Who do you recommend I hire to help me achieve my goals?

I have been seeing a Psychoanalytic Therapist for the last year. I have made great strides working with her and I deeply appreciate her support. Nevertheless, I feel like our main goal has been to understand my past and present. At this point in my life, I want to work with someone who can help me achieve "specific desired behavioral outcomes". [more inside]

CBT or RET/REBT Worksheets or Own Methods that Work for You

I have struggled with intense anxiety and depression for many years. My counselor who still uses RET (REBT) is helpful. I have read Feeling Good (CBT) along with other books of RET author Albert Ellis...but I have difficulty finding a way that makes sense in disputing my thoughts that I stick with. I am willing to put the time in but I am curious is anyone here is willing to share their own style of doing CBT or RET homework that works for them. I'm not asking for shortcuts but unique ways you may have tweaked either layout or jotting down things. I am open to whatever you might suggest. (For what it is worth, I find Albert Ellis' writing rather strange but understand the philosophy of REBT and CBT.)

How to choose a therapist? Know one in the Loop, Chicago?

Can you recommend a great cognitive behavior therapist in the Loop, Chicago? Extra brownie points for one in North Loop. PS. On second thought, any tips on how to choose a therapist in the first place? What should I be looking for in a therapist? I want to minimize therapist hopping.

I would prefer not to? Wow, not a huge Melville crowd, I guess

A person actively avoids doing what he knows will make him happy. He just doesn't want to do it. Psychologically, what's going on here? And more importantly, perhaps, why should he do what he doesn't want to do? What arguments, appealing to either his reason or his emotions, might he consider? [more inside]

Seeking good CBT therapist in/near Boston

Hi All, I'm looking for a CBT (cognitive behavioral) therapist in Boston. I'm interested in talking about relationships, my goals, my career, etc. I have a history of dysthymia/mild depression. My insurance is Harvard Pilgrim HMO. I'm open to other varieties of therapy around the CBT vein, dialectical behavioral therapy or whatever, as long as the person is good. If you have a suggestion of someone who doesn't take Harvard Pilgrim, or you don't know, please list them anyway. Thanks!

Recommedations for CBT therapists in Austin?

I have a friend who suffers from anxiety and panic disorder. She currently sees a therapist, but is interested in a more structured approach. Does anyone have a recommendation for a female therapist in Austin, TX who specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? I would also be interested in getting recommendations for brief inpatient programs.
