Catastrophe

As a purely hypothetical question, if a five-pound cat were to fall from an arbitrarily tall point, how long would it take him to reach terminal velocity? How fast would he be traveling at that point? Part II: If, say, someone was standing at the initial point, how long would it take the cat to drop completely out of sight? What is the longest distance an unaided human eye can perceive an armload-sized object, in other words? Assume the area is lit at about a 60-Watt bulb in a uniform manner. [more inside]

Cat with feline hepatic lipidosis (FHL): what to do?

What should we do with a cat with feline hepatic lipidosis (FHL)? We've been force-feeding her for a week since diagnosis, but the vet is scaring us with worsening liver test results. (That may be due to not feeding her enough, though.) I'm scared out of my mind for my furry feline daughter, and we've been selling stuff left and right just to afford some measure of veterinary care. [more inside]

Completely random question that's kinda hard to look up on Google: If you take your beloved toddler or puppy (or perhaps kitty too) and make it decide between going to you as you call for it, or going to someone else that calls for it, who equally has the subject's affections, what choice does it ultimately make? You can lead a cat to water...

I have two energetic one-year-old cats who love to knock over their water dish. I've tried several different types (at first they had a standard ceramic dish, into which they'd drop their stuffed toys until the toys absorbed all of the water (and got extremely gross), so I switched to a water-cooler-style dish, with a jug on top that fills to a dish in the bottom. That worked for a few weeks, but now the just play with it until it tips over, leaving my rug wet and them thirsty. What can I do to keep them from doing this? Is there a better (but still inexpensive) cat-watering system?

Sudden Cat Aggression in Previously Harmonious Household - Help!

One of my cats (male, neutered) has suddenly become violently aggressive against another of my cats (female, spayed). Both cats still interact well with our other three cats, so this seems to be something just between the two of them. I will be consulting my vet, but, assuming there is nothing physically wrong with either cat that may be triggering this (and both cats behave entirely normally when separated from each other), what can be done to heal this rift, which is seriously upsetting our multi-cat household?
