I would like to get a dog sometime in the next few years. My cat does not like dogs. I don’t want to adopt a dog and realize later that she’ll never come around. Is there a way I can acclimate her to dogs now, before I own one? [more inside]
We have two awesome indoor-only cats. Both of them are rescues - one of them grew up with dogs and LOVES DOGS and the other one doesn't know what dogs are. Both are very large ragdolls (a breed that tends to like dogs). We're interested in considering adding a dog to our home and would be grateful on advice regarding breeds and the age of the incoming dog. Thanks! [more inside]
Is it safe to make dog and cat toys from recycled leather* jackets and bags? Googling is not helping here. I feel like my little buddies would love some leather toys, and I could probably give or sell some to friends/neighbours, but I just want to be on the safe side. [more inside]
My cat acts like a dog. Is it possible that he was raised by dogs? [more inside]

Our dog had tape worms several weeks ago. Presumably she got them from raw pork fat she got out of the garbage overnight. We gave her medication as prescribed by the vet and they cleared up quickly. We just noticed several small worms sticking to the area around our cat's butt. [more inside]
I want to know if I am crazy or not, because the last thing my life needs right now is More Bad Stuff. I am going through a very tough time lately (due to infertility and a dying parent). I also own two (neurotic) cats. I think I need a dog because an outpouring of goodness and unconditional happiness is sorely needed. But I'm trying to get knocked up, both my husband & I work full time, and I've never owned a dog before. Snowflake details inside, plus bonus question: if we get this dog, should it be a puppy or adult? From a breeder or a shelter? [more inside]
I have a scaredy-cat. He runs away from anything loud and/or fast. He is barely older than 3, and hopefully he'll live for a long time. Can I ever hope to get a dog while he's around? [more inside]
Dogs, cats, and herbicides. My town hires a contractor to spray the gutters for weed control. A truck comes along and hoses down the gutters with Milestone (aminopyralid). It's impractical to give notice to homeowners of application dates because the window of application is extremely weather dependent; therefore I have no idea when it's going to happen and end up blithely walking my dogs straight through freshly applied herbicide at every single street crossing, as we walk four miles nearly every day of the year. Obviously many other dogs and outdoor cats are affected as well. How does your municipality handle weed control? Are you given notice? Are there more environmentally friendly ways of preventing weeds in gutters? Supposedly this is a very safe herbicide but, you know, we've heard that before. I strongly prefer not to walk my dogs in it.
Can a street cat be brought into a home with 6 large dogs? My dad has 6 dogs, all very docile except for the female dog, and he wants to possibly bring his porch cat inside at some point over the next 4 months. Is this possible? [more inside]

We have a cat and we'd like to add a beagle to the family but are wondering if the two would get along. I understand a beagle is a hunting dog and might see the cat as something to track and, well, hound. Any stories here?
There are many feral cats in our neighborhood, which is extra annoying because 1) they drive my dogs bonkers, 2) they leave their droppings in our yard almost daily, which are super stinky, and 3) some spread fleas. Do you have suggestions for how to get rid of them? I may get cat traps from the humane society, and someone suggested sprinkling coffee grounds. Are there any other good ways to repel cats with something that is nontoxic for dogs?
How to ensure we're doing the right thing with introducing a dog and cat. I know this question has been asked before, and I've looked at the answers, and was hoping for more specific help on a few points. (I've also looked at various advice online, but I wanted to ask a couple of specific questions.) [more inside]

Roommate's approach to fixing his dog's bad behaviour is through telling him "don't do that", and my cat is in constant fear.
Roommate's dog is untrained and terrorises cats. The roommate won't do anything really (except verbally address his dog "don't do that") Needless to say the dog does many things that are bad besides terrorizing my cat and another roommate's cat Like a parent with an out of control child, what do you do??? Completely random question that's kinda hard to look up on Google: If you take your beloved toddler or puppy (or perhaps kitty too) and make it decide between going to you as you call for it, or going to someone else that calls for it, who equally has the subject's affections, what choice does it ultimately make? Is it wrong to get my dog high by blowing marijuana smoke at him? I am asking medically and ethically, of course. He's neutered and very good natured. I have known people that have intentionally 'smoked out' their animals from time to time, and it hasn't seemed to be harmful, but I was just wondering, since it's come up recently.
