Is anyone aware of an old paper filing system in which the individual records were punched with holes representing categories and/or keywords? To filter the records, you pushed a wooden rod through the holes and lifted out the records. I can't find this, no matter how advanced my Google-fu.

Please tell me everything I need to know about the GMail dot feature (placing - or not placing - a dot in the username of a gmail email address). I don't understand it, how to use it, what it does and how to take advantage of it. As an email receiver and sender. Also, what problems are created with this?
