Our 20 pound monster of a cat had to be injected with a tranquilizer today at the vet. Afterwards, we were told not to give him any food or water until tomorrow. Google searches have turned up plenty of suggestions for how to tranquilize one's pet, but nothing mentioning not letting them eat or drink. We're obviously going to do as the vet says, but this cat has a darling habit of clawing furniture and knocking things off shelves when his dish is empty, so I can't help but wonder why. Any ideas?

I want to make my own homemade, raw meat (chicken and rabbit) cat food. My girlfriend thinks it's a bad idea. Almost everything I can find on the interwebs suggest that feeding a cat a BARF (biologically appropriate raw food) diet is healthy for the cat. This wiki suggests that there is no scientific evidence pointing to a clear resolution - in the references section there are some vets arguing one way or the other, but nothing concrete. Has anyone been there, done that, or have any other advice? [more inside]

So, my new roommate brought a cat with her, and she's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I want her to eat wet food as well as dry (she seems to love it), but everytime I open the can I retch. Has anybody found a way around this?

CatFilter: We've just taken in a friend's cat for two weeks. Unfortunately, it turns out that this cat is fed dry food twice a day, while our cat just grazes at her dry food all day. The visiting cat has no self-control over food and so we can't just leave our cat's food out, as it'll get eaten and make the visiting cat sick. Can my cat adapt to regulated feeding on such short notice? If she doesn't get enough to eat, until she learns to adapt, will there be side effects? I'm at a total loss here as to what to do.

My cat is ~2 years old and has been fed wet food all her life. I've finally tired of the smell and inconvenience of it all and decided it's time for her to eat dry food (as it's better for her teeth anyway). Only problem is, she refuses to eat the dry food I've given her. I've tried two different brands, tried pouring the juice from her grody cat food over the dry stuff, and she hasn't really eaten in almost a week. The people at my pet store keep telling me to just try like, 35 different kinds of food, but I certainly don't have the money to do all that. Any suggestions on how to make a picky cat surrender the hunger strike?

My cat almost always shows an interest in people food - until you offer it to her, upon which, almost invariably, she will sniff it and look disappointed. This happens even with uncooked chicken and tuna from the can. Also, whenever we open a can, she runs frantically into the kitchen and tries to see up on the counter - she eats dry cat food, and I've tried to serve her wet food, but no dice on that. Do cats really remember a specific food from the past? Is she hoping for something gross I would never buy, like canned pigs feet or something? Or was she perhaps posioned by people food and distrusts it now? She came from a shelter a couple of years ago (found in a motel) so I have no idea what her background is.
