Why can't my cat eat? (Also: can you get my cat to eat?)

My cat is having trouble eating. We've taken her to the vet, and everything seems fine. But she's losing weight, and we're getting very anxious and frustrated and scared and confused. Any idea what's going on? [more inside]

How to transition a cat to free feed

So since we got Molly, she's been a joy. But we're still trying to settle into a feeding regimen. We're currently on a morning feed (wet), an after work feed (wet), and a right before bed snack (high quality dry). It's fine, but it would be great if it could be a bit more flexible or less frequent. I wonder if we could put her on a free feed system like my friend does with her two cats, but I'm scared of overfeeding her. Does anyone have advice on how we could try transitioning to that sort of thing? I'm not sure about doing it gradually because I feel like that would just make her eat more and more. But if we just go straight to an always full bowl, will she just gorge herself all of a sudden and make herself sick?

What automatic feeder should we get for our cats?

my main coon cat Bear laughs at our anti cat devices and pounds on the door for breakfast. He started pounding at 5:00 a.m. this morning, 90 minutes before my alarm goes off, and kept it up long enough to ruin my sleep. It's time for a new strategy: automatic feeding devices. Please recommend the best device. [more inside]

Cat. Wet food. Nothing is easy.

Pumpernickel is having UTI issues and needs to go on a strict wet-food-only diet. After buying more brands and flavors than I can count, I think we've found some he likes. What cornless catfood should I buy?

So, apparently corn is bad for cats but it's in all the foods I see in the store. Even at Wholefoods, all the brands have corn in it except for one. I haven't tried Petsmart yet, but I would like some ideas on what you guys use that don't contain corn. I don't mind ordering off the internet either.

My kitty is a picky eater. How do I change this?

My cat is ~2 years old and has been fed wet food all her life. I've finally tired of the smell and inconvenience of it all and decided it's time for her to eat dry food (as it's better for her teeth anyway). Only problem is, she refuses to eat the dry food I've given her. I've tried two different brands, tried pouring the juice from her grody cat food over the dry stuff, and she hasn't really eaten in almost a week. The people at my pet store keep telling me to just try like, 35 different kinds of food, but I certainly don't have the money to do all that. Any suggestions on how to make a picky cat surrender the hunger strike?
