New kitten seems stuck on eating adult cat food

I was unable to resist adopting a stray kitten from a co-worker. During the five days the co-worker had her, she was eating dry food meant for indoor adult cats. Now she won't switch. Is this a problem? [more inside]

Train the cats, train the kids?

I have inherited two kittens (now almost a year old). One of them is continually scratching my elementary-aged kids. I have had no luck training the kids in cat body language, because it seems to go from cuddly-and-purring to face-scratching instantly. [more inside]

When is it time?

My middle aged cat has been grappling with some ill-defined health problems for the last month or so. She's been through the gauntlet of vet visits and pilling and has taken a turn for the worse. Next step is back to a weeks' hospitalization with a biopsy and feeding tube. In my heart I've already said goodbye to her. I don't know why I am feeling this and whether it's the right thing to do. Acclimating Kitten in Bedroom

I'm bringing a kitten home next week. I was told he should be separated and placed in a quiet area away from my dog, then slowly introduced. My apartment is VERY SMALL. My bedroom is carpeted and I don't want him peeing there, or on my bed while he's in there with a litter box. He may learn that's where the box will ALWAYS be and it's ok to go there. If I lock him in the bathroom, it has no window and he'll be in tight quarters for AT LEAST a week to acclimate to smells/sounds. However, THAT IS the location I prefer one of his litter boxes to be. Also, how could I teach him he'll have his own bed to sleep on at bedtime and it WON'T be mine.

Stray cat --> Outdoor pet?

So, yay - I've been chosen! But I can't have a cat, not really - my entire family is allergic to cats, and I have two pets now (a dog and a bird) who would NOT be okay with a cat in the house. My question is really about whether it is kind to try and keep a stray cat as an outdoor-only pet. [more inside]

My Bengal kitten is a special kind of crazy and I need answers

Our 10 month old bengal kitten plays *hard*. When we're playing, or when she wants to play more than we do, she puffs up her tail and arches her back and does that weird crab-shuffle and then laps around the house. I'm concerned because in my head arched back and puffed tail equals stressed out cat, but with her it seems to be associated with intense play. This behavior is also never associated with attacking us or being aggressive. I'm aware that bengals are, uh, crazy, but is this within the bounds of how bengals are? This is daily behavior. Frito Feet and Stanky Pet Pits: A Cornish Rex Conundrum

I need advice from short hair cat breeds. I have a lovely Cornish Rex, Louise, who is white (and pink where her skin shows through). She gets dirty quickly, and I don't want to bathe her too frequently, because a) she doesn't like it, b) even though I towel her off, her little short curls and damp fur make her miserable and cold, and she's afraid of the hairdryer, and c) I don't want to dry her skin out, because it's so exposed... see inside for more fun Cornish Rex Facts!!! Vet time?

My cat seems to have a cold -it seems like she has really bad nasal congestion and eye discharge. Should I take her to the vet? On the one hand I think no, because last time she had these symptoms (July) the vet said there was nothing she could do, and I don't want to stress her out for nothing when she's already uncomfortable and possibly prolong this. On the other hand "Making bad noises when breathing= doctor" seems like a pretty good guideline to follow in general. [more inside]

What's a cute phrase to indicate on my cat's tag that he is indoor-only?

My neighborhood has a lot of outdoor cats, so I would like to add something to my indoor cat's tag to indicate that if someone encounters him alone outdoors it means that he is, indeed, lost. I don't like "Oh no, I'm lost!" since it'll be mostly me or my guests that see the tag the majority of the time, when it's not applicable -- but the only alternative I've come up with is "indoor cat," which is lacking the cute factor. "Lucky" in Spanish as an animal's name

I'm writing a short story in which one of the characters has a cat named Lucky. For contextual reasons, it would make sense if the cat was named Lucky in Spanish.
