Help my kitty have a great Christmas roadtrip!

I am visiting my mother for a couple weeks; I'd like to take my adorable little Kokopelli with me. I'll be driving and it's about 9 hours. I want to make sure that (a) my kitty is safe and comfortable during the trip there and back, and that (b) he can have a nice visit once we arrive. [more inside]

How to keep our cat from urinating on our car?!

One of our cats is a habitual out-of-litterbox toilet user. Due to this issue, we've had to put him in the garage at night when we can't keep an eye on him. However, we recently purchased a new car and plan to begin putting it in the garage - but we're not sure how to keep that cat - plus possible one other - from urinating on the car. Can anyone think of some solutions? Right now all I can think of is a cover or tarp.

Can any crafters help me with my felt beasties?

I was wondering if any Metafilter crafters could help my wife out with a sewing problem she's having? Here's her question: "I make felt animals, usually of the jointed variety. I draw my own patterns and sew by hand, and it's been going fine up till now, but the last two creatures I made have both had a weird bunching at the neck. I've tried altering the width of the necks, the gussets, basting in advance, what-all, but I can't figure out what the problem is... [more inside]

Cat feeder

So I usually feed the cats dry and wet food. Well I use a cat feeder and I think it works but does not fill up the bowl. It delivers food on the back of the bowl but does not fill up the bowl. Well now my husband and I are gone for the night and I can't help it but sit here and worry that they are starving and not getting enough food. I will be back tommorow but I left today this morning and I didn't expect I will be gone for the night. They just have this feeder that is supposed to throw down food by gravity. Like I say I think it works but they need to get it out from the back with the paw. Will they do that?

Vet care for a cat after fight

My cat just got into a fight with a neighbor's cat. I broke up the fight, but my cat was spooked and wouldn't come to me, so I haven't had a chance to look her over. I am guessing she will need to go to the vet to get any bites/scratches attended to. How long after being scratched/bitten can I wait to go into the vet? It is getting later in the day, my regular vet is closing soon, and I may have to wait until morning to see them. Can I wait (providing it is minor injuries), or should I find an emergency vet?

Discouraging cat from pissing on sofa

Our lovely little cat-beast has taken to pissing on our sofa basically every morning, no matter how much we try to stop him, no matter how clean the litter box. We're using Febreeze to try and get rid of the smell, but we worry that a certain aroma remains, and that's what makes him go back there. Is there some strong-smelling but nontoxic-to-cats substance we could put on the sofa to make it appear less like a giant soft litter box?

It's a cat food question

My question is essentially what is the best food option for an elderly cat with tooth problems (and potentially digestive as well)? And the caveats are that this is in the UK, on a limited budget, and the owner is both somewhat frail (so labour-intensive options are out) and stubbornly determined that she knows best - so I'm looking for personal experience and online resources/guidelines that I can present in the most straightforward manner.
