White Collar is my all-time favorite TV show. Recently I've speed-binged Burn Notice on Netflix, and I'm almost done. I'm looking for my next fix. [more inside]
I just ran across this hotel in China which is built to look like a castle named "Xinghai Castle" in Dalian, CN. Looking into it though, it seems that there are photos showing it with two fairly different designs, how can this be explained? The designs are pretty different if you look closely. Did they tear down the whole old castle and rebuild it? [more inside]
So my son is about to be six and he's having a "Castles, Kings and Queens" party (his choice of theme!) at our house at the end of this week. Like him, I too love drawbridges, moats, crenellations, portcullises etc etc. [more inside]
Help me pick out a Lego set! [more inside]
Where can I find detailed floor plans (and/or architectural drawings) of Highclere Castle (which plays Downton Abbey on TV)? I've already spent a fair amount of time on Google, but I've only found a few blurry bits and bobs. (I'd like to create a video game level closely based on the real castle.) [more inside]
Isn't there a particular word for the deterrent method of putting thieves' heads on pikes outside a village perimeter to discourage further attacks on the villagers? [more inside]
Hola Mefi, Growing up, my Dad was a party clown and stage magician. He wasn't half-bad, either! I have a lot of fond memories of learning little sleights of hand and spoiling the trick at other kid's birthday parties (Sorry.). And while Pops doesn't really do magic anymore, he still loves the theater of it and binges on YouTube shows etc. So, I snagged us an invite to the Magic Castle next time he's in town. Since I've never been: What's it like? Best/worst things to do? Stuff to avoid? [more inside]
My daughter, who is 5, would really like to visit a castle. She's very interested in Princesses and seems fascinated that I lived in England as a kid. "Right next door to the Queen?!?" she asks. Well, not exactly. [more inside]
We'd like to have a small, lovely wedding on the grounds or in the gardens of a Scottish castle. The internet leads me down a sweaty, confusing little rabbit hole. [more inside]
My mother and I have planned a somewhat last-minute trip to Scotland and we just discovered the Carols at the Castle event at Stirling Castle on the 15th. It is, of course, wildly popular and already sold out. Where might an enterprising couple of ladies manage to find tickets from those who have purchased them but no longer want/can use them? In the US I'd look on Craigslist for something like this, but that doesn't seem to be a popular option here in the UK. Gumtree hasn't given me anything either. Any way for us to track them down, or is it a sadly lost cause?
I just accidentally deleted a much loved picture on my pinterest and despite a lot of searching, cannot find it anywhere. Does this building sound familiar? It was old, white and European and had amazing brown line drawings of architectural details painted around the doors and windows. I think it might have been a minor Swedish or German castle but everything I find when googling with those terms is a lot grander than what I'm looking for. The trompe l'oeil was almost convincing from a distance but up close it had a simple hand painted charm - there was no shading or rulers involved. I really enjoy looking at buildings with hand painted exteriors (eg. Burkina Faso houses) so if you can suggest some others for me to look at, that would be fantastic too.
Do I continue writing a book I've enjoyed writing and researching when it seems I've unintentionally given it the same premise as Castle? [more inside]

A friend and I are planning a trip to Wales (we're both in the UK). The only thing she really wants to do is go to Snowdonia and do a bit of hiking, and the only thing I really want to do is go to Milford Haven, the town where my grandmother grew up. We also might want to visit a castle. How can we do this, without a car? [more inside]
Tumblr attributions just lead me down a rabbit hole. Does anyone know where this photo was taken?
I am looking for a pink castle-shaped pen holder. It should be suitable to hold the kind of stationary your average office worker needs. Glitter and fur a bonus. Must be from some where that delivers to the UK. [more inside]

Many years ago (late eighties/early nineties), I used to play a delightful DOS-based RPG on my father's Olivetti computer. It was simply called "Castle" and involved a quest through an ASCII-rendered castle -- fighting demons and ogres, acquiring inventory, and so forth. The Olivetti went to its final rest around 1996, but this computer game was, for me, just as entertaining as anything on the market today. Is anyone out there familiar with this game? Could anyone suggest where I could find a copy? Unsurprisingly, Googling "castle" doesn't seem to get me very far, and I'm not sure where else to begin.
As a web developer I can usually find what I want on the Internet. This however, has stumped me for over five years. Please help me find any info about this movie. I saw it in the 80s, possibly the early 90s. For the amount of detail I recall about the movie, I can't believe I've never found anything on the net. The description follows: [more inside]
Did anyone used to play Dark Castle on the old Macs? I spent a lot of my childhood playing it... and I'm thirsting for more. Now I have a PC - does anyone know of a way for me to find it online? Or elsewhere?
