Is there anywhere in/near Nashville, TN that I can buy a Kindle case similar to the M-Edge GO? I just got a Kindle for Christmas (yay!) and I want to pick up a case for it. I'll order it online if I have to, but I've got some extra cash and if there's somewhere I can buy one in store I'd love to do that.

I really like the M-Edge GO! case, but anything similar will do.

Secondarily, once I have the case, what would be the best way to modify it so it says "DON'T PANIC" in large, friendly letters? I've seen leather stamps mentioned, as well as custom embossing. The M-Edge says it is "genuine leather." I have no experience with this kind of thing.

Machine Washable EEEPC Case?

I was sick all weekend. I brought some dayquil to work with me in my backpack...along with my eeepc 1000he.... The cap came off the bottle and spilled all over the inside of the backpack..soaking the eeepc case and the book I was reading. They are now a nice day-glo orange color. The netbook is fine, but I want to find out if the case (the standard case that comes with the eeepc) is machine washable. I guess it doesn't matter too much, as I will not be using it anymore if it's not...but I just thought I would ask.

It looks like a neoprene sort of material, but it is soaked through with the dayquil.

New 13.3 inch unibody MacBook. How can I protect its case from scratches, but at the same time preserve the aesthetic beauty of the laptop? The new "unibody" MacBook, if you've seen it in retailers, is enclosed in a slick, white case that simply rocks. It deserves to be seen--and protected.

I'm not worried about dropping the device, since I'm careful with computers. I'd simply like to protect the case from the occasional scratch or scuff. But I'd like to do so in a way which preserves the visibility of the case from the outside, and the Apple logo, of course.

What are the best solutions for protecting a device like this? I'm assuming that a transparent, low form factor case of some sort will do the job, but maybe a protective sheet (like those used on iPods) will work just as well.

Given that I'd like to see as much of the machine from the outside, which manufacturers and products should I be looking at?

Help locating ideal iphone gym case

What's a good iphone case that will keep the phone safe and out of the way while I workout but will allow easy access to the screen and phone functions? I'm using one of the many iphone fitness applications at the gym and so I need to consult the screen fairly regularly but find it awkward storing the phone in my pocket or tethered to my arm while I preform the exercises.

Looking for non-fugly camera case!

I need a case for my new Olympus E-P1, but I can't find one that I like! I really love the leather one I've been seeing in pictures of the camera everywhere, but that case/strap is hard to find and exorbitantly expensive to boot ($85-$200 everywhere I've found it online). So, is there something similar to that that's under $80 and available in the US? (Yes, I've checked eBay.) Olympus shows something similar for a decent price on their site, but it's not available anymore. If not one like that, is there an attractive case/strap combo of another kind that might fit the E-P1? Or any handy tips for making something on my own? I'm good with crafty type things.

Help me find the get rid of my backpack! I am a student, but one of those older professional students, and I keeps catching glimpses of myself in windows with my huge backpack and I grimace.

I should no longer have a backpack.

So, I need a bag that I can bring to school and work placements. It needs to be:

1) Functional - (it should be able to carry at least one textbook and binder, and have room for the equivalent of a thin jacket.

2) Strong - my textbooks are heavy and it needs to be able to handle that.

3) Sleek - I want this to grow old with me so it needs to be of classic style.

4) Waterproof - would be nice. Not completely necessary.

I am in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I am willing to spend up to $250.

I like the look of these, but they should be used as a starting point rather than a rule.

Not-Ugly Kindle Case?

What is the best, prettiest, most protective case for a Kindle? I have a Kindle 2. It currently goes naked in my purse, but for a variety of reasons that is a very bad idea. I have looked at these cases on Amazon and these pricey cases, but haven't found the perfect thing yet. Etsy is coming up with sleeves, but not cases that hold the Kindle at all times.

Priorities: The case should be aesthetically pleasing (no vinyl/neoprene/pleather). It should hold the Kindle tightly but allow access to the various buttons. It should allow for one-handed reading while walking; this probably means it should have a relatively thin profile. Pockets are not important. I have a slight preference for the flip-top orientation from the first link rather than the side-spine, book-like orientation of the second (which seems like it wouldn't fold over flat, given the thick leather).

Any ideas?

Leashing my iPhone

I am looking for an iPhone lanyard for using in situations where dropping my phone would mean losing my phone. I need to be able to text and call while lanyard is attached to the inside of a pocket. I spend a LOT of time on my snowboard. I use my phone to rendezvous with other people, which usually means texting from the lift. It is pretty common to lose your phone while texting with cold hands, and I have participated in more than one mad dash from the top of the mountain for phone recovery. On a big powder day, dropped items are lost completely. I don't want Pratt-case style nylon - ideally case is robust and made of rubber or some other material that holds up to elements and provides a small amount of protection. Phone usually sits in my front left pants pocket. Got any ideas?

Can you help a fashionable girl find a nice leather wallet-style iphone case? I'm looking for a leather iPhone case, something like this Sena case but more stylish and/or funky and/or sophisticated...essentially I want something more fashionable and higher quality that this. I would like this to be a kind of clutch purse in which I can put a small amount of cash and 2-3 cards. I like the style of acme made but they don't make iPhone cases.

Online would be good but I'm in NYC so if you have any stores to to suggest here that would be great too. Any recommendations?

How does one review case law? In a criminal case in state district court, I would imagine review case law would be very helpful. What I mean is, if you could review a case where an acquittal was acquired for similar charges to the case you are currently looking at, that would seem very helpful. I am sure this is something lawyers do all the time, for example when they are showing precedent, etc.

How do lawyers access this information to review case law?

Not-too-chunky case for iPhone 3G with belt clip that you don't hate? I've had a Griffin Elan Clip since June, during which time the plastic belt clip's hinge has crumbled to pieces twice (replaced by the Apple store once, returning to Griffin under warranty this time) under what I would consider light to moderate use.

I use the swivel clip on this case to anchor the iPhone inside a wide, deep pocket on the outside of my messenger bag while I commute. Sometimes I clip it to the inside of my front pants pocket. Many of the other belt clip-equipped cases I have seen are awfully chunky, and would make both of these applications impractical. Can you recommend any that aren't too beefy, but at the same time aren't too flimsy? I'd like to find one that won't need to be replaced -- either by the manufacturer or on my dime -- once a month!

Case-Insensitive LS on Mac OS X?

Unix mavens: is there a way for ls on a Mac OS X install to alphabetize its listing case-insensitively, while still preserving any other ls flags you may be using? If not, does another ls variant offered by anybody offer case-insensitivity, and if so, how can I supplant one with the other, without risk of any harm to anything else on my system? (If it matters, my shell of choice is tcsh.)

How long should it take to write/update a nonprofit case statement? I've been asked to estimate how long it would take me to write/update the case statement for a nonprofit I currently work for (in another position). The audience would be potential major donors.

I've never written anything like this before, but I've been reading up on what goes into a case statement, have several good examples to look at, and even a ~12-year-old copy of the organization's previous case statement (that was the last time it was updated, apparently).

The more I learn about case statements, the more it seems like this is potentially a HUGE project. Some of the books I've been reading even suggest going around and interviewing everyone in the organization before writing it, mention that dozens of people are going to have comments and revisions to incorporate, etc.

So, I'd really like to hear from people who've done it before -- how many hours, over how many weeks, do you think it usually takes to write a nonprofit case statement?

Also, any ideas on where else I might post this question and get good information?

What case should I get for my new iPhone 3Gs?

What case should I get for my new iPhone 3Gs? Needed specs inside. So I love my iSkin case (revo, I think) for my original iphone except for one thing...the edges of the case come up to high against the screen...creating a little lip that gets hit when plays games. Imagine the iphone turned sideways and playing a game that has the virtual joystick on the lower left of the screen. Thumb moves down, hits edge of case, makes me bad at game and eventually rips the case.

So I looked at the iSkin SoloFX and it seems to have a more flush edge but its only in ugly colors.

Can anyone think of a silicony case (that makes it a bit grippy) that also has a flush edge and is not hideously ugly? A dark blue is okay, a neon blue, not so much.

I looked at the Apple store but did not have much luck.

Making HUGE MISTAKES, and being okay

Inspired by this story about Citicorp Center, I've been looking for other stories about people who made mistakes which would have huge, disastrous consequences, and how they handled both the ethical situation of what to do when they discovered it and how they acted to prevent disaster. I'd like to put together a short set of them addressing the same issues with a few conversation-starting questions for a luncheon discussion group, but I'm having trouble finding for good examples. Bonus points for suggestions related to software.

Where can I get a super slim iPhone case, similar to the case that shipped with the first generation iPod nano? Anyone remember that case? It was a little white slipper case that they started shipping w/ the nanos after the numerous reports of prolific scratching. The controls could not be accessed inside the case, but that is fine w/ me. I loved how thin it was, and I work in a wood shop, so I'm looking for something that will help keep the dust away.

Building your own RAID, let's talk hardware options... Say the ultimate goal was to make something that looks like N5200 but ran Open Solaris for ZFS. The cheapest I have seen a N5200 is some $600. (even empty). (N7700 uses Linux, and ZFS in FUSE which I would rather not).

So assuming I need something Intel (well, or sparc I guess), 5 bays (or more), SATA.

Perhaps using something like a Q-Box 4 case, which fits 4x 5.25" space.

I should be able to fit something like a Supermicro 5 bay for the drives, which ends with 5 SATA ports. And takes up 3x 5.25" bays. The last bay in the case is half taken by the motherboard.

Now for the main board, seems the latest rage is the Intel Atom (yes?no?) and of that, the Z530 appears to be the embedded chip. Should I look at a ready made board with the chip, or a separate board, that can take the chip.

Of the Mini-ITX boards, I do not see any that directly has 5+ SATA ports:

So perhaps a 4-port SATA card is needed, or something drastic like using a PATA channel, with SATA adaptor.

I am guessing fanless is probably a good idea for raid? Or should I look at the MITX-6852 which appears to be aimed at embedded as well, and does come with 6-SATA ports.

Any other options to consider? I'm based in Tokyo, so I should be able to get most things, but it does make searching for information a hint harder.

That seems to land around $300, plus LCD display if I can find one to fit in a 5.25" bay.

(SATA Multiplier options are no-go.)

Aboriginal self-government in Canada

I need Canadian Supreme Court cases involving aboriginal self-government. Doing some (non-homework) research, I can't find any good cases regarding Aboriginal claims to self-government in the courts. I've already seen:

Calder et al v. Attorney General of B.C. (the Nisga'a case)
R. v. Pamajewon
Delgamuukw v. British Columbia

and I already know of:

Cambell et al v. AG/BC (stayed in the B.C. courts)
Haida Nation v. British Columbia

What am I missing? Preferably Supreme Court cases, but if there's a good one in a provincial Supreme I'd be grateful.

I bought a Kindle 2. Amazon lists a paltry selection of covers and skins. I want a good one. I drop things, a lot. Sometimes I spill things. I've got an Otterbox for my iPhone and love it, but don't necessarily need something quite so rugged. Mostly, I want to use my Kindle all the time, but don't want it to get grimy, worn or ragged.

Based on your Kindle 1 experiences, what is the best brand of skin or case to get for my device?

Could you locate a new, clear plastic case for the classic 2G iPhone that does not have belt-clip or kick-stand for purchase? Looking high and low for this item. I bought the 3G iPhone a while back, and gave my 8GB 2G "classic" iPhone to my wife. I never bought a case for it and she's dropped it several times already. She only wants clear plastic without anything attached to it (kick-stand, belt-clip, etc.). Must be clear, and not "smoky". Also prefer one piece, rather than two pieces that clip together, if possible. I've searched and come up empty. Help an IT consultant write a business case for promotion. My company holds an annual review for all employees based on their level. I started my job as an IT consultant a few years ago straight out of college. I am one of about a dozen consultants in my office who I will be reviewed against for promotion, and roughly a fourth of us will make the cut. We don't all work on the same projects so our promotion is based on us writing a self assessment of our performance in more general terms, and I wanted to add to this by writing a business case about how if I am promoted, I will benefit our clients, company and co-workers. I am turning to the hive mind for suggestions about how to write a business case for promotion.

Custom cases for custom nerf guns

How can I make a really cheap foam-lined case for a nerf (or other) rifle? For my brothers birthday, I am working on an EXTENSIVELY modified nerf recon (performance mods, added springs, all sorts of rail addons, probably a paint job). This is the model that breaks down into individual parts... I want to make a custom foam padded case for the parts, so I can give it the sniper-rifle-in-a-spy-movie treatment. Bonus if I can make it look at sinister as possible.

I have a very limited budget to work with - All of the mods have been done with PVC scraps and what I can find at the discount hardware store. Ideally, I could do this for under $20- I don't care how much work it takes on my end.

Any ideas on how to do this?

(He's turning 35, so yes, this is completely ridiculous)
