We're looking for a convertible (rear- to front-facing) car seat for our 16 month old. We have a Britex Boulevard CS we got as a hand-me-down, but we don't love it. The biggest problem with it is that our daughter is prone to motion sickness and the Boulevard is hard to clean. [more inside]
Preparing for our first baby in October and trying to figure out the smartest approach to equipping ourselves with everything we're going to need. So many choices to make! What things should we pay more for because we'd regret pinching pennies, and when is splurging on the pricier stuff a waste? What should we look for new vs used (and not just for safety issues like carseats, but also what's the key "never waste your money on buying X new, you can get it so much cheaper used" stuff)? We're looking for recommendations for car seats that can fit a child who weighs between 20 and 65 lbs, fits nicely in a small hatchback, and has relative ease of placing/retrieving the child for a two-door car. [more inside]
If you're flying in to Reagan National Airport in DC with a baby and your own car seat, how do you get a cab to your hotel? Will the regular cabs at the cab stand be able to accommodate you, or should you reserve a car service or cab ahead of time? If the latter, can you recommend a company? [more inside]
Our baby's car seat, a Graco Click Connect 30, will not unlock from its base. I know it's a long shot that anyone else might have experience with this, but any suggestions? Preferably ones that don't destroy the seat, base, or seatbelt, but if necessary... [more inside]
My niece is 14 months old, 29 inches tall & 19 pounds. My sister in law already has her forward facing in her car seat. When she mentioned she was planning to turn her around once she hit 1 and asked if I had turned our son around yet I said no way (he's 16 months)! I said it was illegal in some states to turn them around until 2. Her and her husband shrugged it off and said well not here . Should I say something more? Should I send her some articles explaining the benefits of rear facing? Is it not really a big deal? I have no plans to turn my son forward facing regardless, but I would feel awful if something happened to my niece and I never spoke up. I mean no one plans to have an accident. Should I say something or just stay out of it. I know the usual advice on Ask is to stay out of it, but I'm asking anyway.

My husband loves his 2007 Mini Cooper S convertible, but also loves his 3 year old, 38" tall, 30 lb daughter. We're hoping to bring the two things together with the perfect car seat. It needs to be easy to get into for the kid, harness (as opposed to seat belt) preferred. Have any actual real-life Mini owners made this work?

We hope to take our daughter home early next year, but she will likely be only 4lbs plus then. We've been given a Phil & Ted stroller, but we'd like initially to use something that detaches into a car seat. We don't drive, but use a lot of cabs, walking etc. in Singapore. The reviews online seem more for people with cars or bigger babies. Any advice or recommendations for a light stroller that will detach into a carseat that can be used easily in a cab?

How do I get my ten-month-old daughter to tolerate her car seat? I have a baby that despises being in a car. With a trip to Los Angeles (aka The Land of Car Transportation) coming up, I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to make her hate car transportation a little less. [more inside]

My sister just had her first child and on the car ride home, she discovered that her tiny, 3 day old, 5 pound baby is too small for her infant car seat! Last night my husband was involved in a very low-speed crash -- the other party was a cement pylon. The crash popped the airbags and broke the plastic grill on the front of the car, but we don't see any other damage. My son's car seat was in the back of the car. (My son was not in the car.) Do I need to replace the seat? [more inside]

Can anybody tell us what kind of car seat our child should be in? We have 3 and 4 year old children approximately 37" tall and 27 lbs. Their shoulders are about 2" over the top-most shoulder strap slot on their seats. We are not sure if they need a bigger car seat or a booster. Any and all information and recommendations are appreciated. BTW, we have a Toyota Corrola which is relatively small so we can't use some of the Britax models (they are too big for our car).
I left a stick of speed stick deodorant on the seat of my car's seat, and the heat of the sun melted it into the seat's fabric. How should I get it out? It's melted into a lump that's stuck in the seat, and I can kind of scrape some of it off, but not all of it. My car also smells great.
Best car seat for a toddler? We're looking for a booster to fit a 14-month old who is 32 inches, 23 lbs (tall for her age). It was easy to choose an infant seat, but the boosters seem harder to select, especially since the recent Consumer Reports test results (on infant seats, not boosters) showed so many seats that didn't pass the test. Parentfilter (which would be a nice idea, btw). The Boy has grown out of his backward facing car seat (Jersey law is 20 lbs and one year. He'll meet both in 12 days), and we need to upgrade into something forward facing. I've hit a bunch of sites comparing the safety and prices, but I'm hoping for advice from people using them. Who makes the best car seat for children?
