$%&#ing neighbours, parking spot edition

My wife and I are renting an apartment with two parking spots. It is adjacent to another apartment with two spots, but the people there always cram three cars (one of which is always covered with a tarp) into the space, which means that typically one of the cars is halfway onto our spot, which always means the cars are packed tightly together. Title, registration, proof of insurance and license, please

This Saturday I'm picking up a used car in Milwaukee and bringing it down to Chicago. I haven't had a car in 2 years, I lost my driver's license and I only have on-street parking. I'll buy insurance on Saturday once I know the VIN. I'll register the car and get a new license Monday morning. What can I do to make sure I'm not screwed on Sunday? [more inside]

Thief Magnet

I park on the street in an urbanish neighborhood. My car has gotten broken into twice now in a month. The little sh!ts got nothing either time, but I get to replace the window again. When I get out, I remove all interesting items and lock the doors. I reported it both times but the police aren't terribly encouraging that things will change on my street.

Other than moving to a house with a garage, what else should I be doing?

Is there any recourse for being towed for invalid / incorrect reasons?

A friend’s car sat parked legally* on the street outside our house for approx 6 months. It was towed last week for being “parked on the grass” and for not “possessing a valid parking permit.” While there may have been other valid reasons for it to get towed, it was certainly not parked on the grass, nor did it need a permit to be parked there. The towing company denies wrongdoing (obviously) is doing everything possible to avoid responsibility. [MI] [more inside]
