What can I do about soft brakes on my car?

I have a newly acquired 2007 Lexus ES350 sedan. It was my dad's, it is in excellent shape, has been well maintained, and has 50,000 miles on it. I drove a 2003 Lexus before this and had a similar issue to the one I'm having on the 2007, which is that the brakes are just too soft for my tastes. It seems it is part of Lexus' "feel" to keep the ride smooth but I really dislike that I have to press so far and so early to get a good stop. [more inside]

2010 Ford Fusion Brake Question

The rear brakes on my 2010 Ford Fusion, which is still under warranty, have worn out in what seems to me like a premature and unusual way. I have included the details inside and would like your opinion on whether this is an issue I should press with the dealership and/or Ford, or whether I should just fix the brakes and move on. Something's up with my car's brake system but I don't know what.

Can someone help me figure out why my car is acting up? It's starting to drive me insane. It's some issue with the brake fluid system, I think, but I'm not sure. [more inside]

Stopping is a state of mind

Carfilter: I have a 2003 Ford Explorer (2WD, 2-wheel ABS) with 98k miles whose brake pedal requires more travel and pressure to get the vehicle to stop. I've checked the fluid--as has the repair shop every time it gets its oil change--as well as the pads and booster pump compression. My gut says to change the master cylinder. [more inside]

Help with my brake dance

Give me a brake!...I'd like to have a clue about brake rotors. I'm getting my brakes repaired today, and don't want to replace brake rotors if I don't need to. Thing is... I don't know squat about brake rotors so could be easily taken for a ride on the rotormobile. How can I ask the right questions to make sure I really need rotors if the mechanic recommends they be replaced?

My brakes make a weird noise. What's the deal?

[Autofilter] My brakes make a grinding sound when I first start driving. After I use the brakes several times, usually after 5-10 minutes of driving (sometimes more), they're back to normal. In addition to the grinding sound, it's much harder to push down on the brake- this also disappears after using my brakes enough. What's up? [more inside]
