There is a strong possibility my grandfather will be giving me his 1998 Buick Park Avenue within the next 2-12 months. I have never owned a car and do not know much about proper maintenance besides how to check oil. Help me prepare so that this doesn't turn into an even bigger expense than the insurance/gas will already be. Would love to hear from any who owns these cars.

The only thing that I know about cars is that the engine makes it go. What's a good book/website/reference that can I use to improve my car knowledge? Also, I bought a car in 2003 but I don't drive very much so it's got about 6500 miles on it. I had the oil changed at 3000 miles but I haven't done any of the other preventive maintenance listed in the manual. I realize that I need get that done but do I have to take it to the dealership? If I take it to like Car X or Jiffy Lube will they know what to do for my car? I'm assuming that different cars need different maintenance performed on them.

What's with all the different antifreeze colors. My GF took her car to the quicky-change for an oil change. They tell her that she has the wrong kind of antifreeze - her's is green they say she needs orange. I bounced around on Google and found a lot of conflicting information. Most say that there are differences in antifreeze and that the different types are made for specific makes of vehicle. What I couldn't find was agreement on whether or not it is critical that the correct type be used. Some say change immediately, others say it's best to use the proper type but it doesn't really matter and others say it doesn't matter at all. The vehicle is a 99 GMC Yukon. Any advice??
