Where can I find a comprehensive list of all the ports in the United States that are capable of receiving an international cargo shipment that will need to be cleared through US customs? I know that this includes seaports, but I think that it also includes "dry ports" and "intermodal hubs."

Pelican-question: I need to transport some heavy equipment in medium-sized Pelican cases. The default soft gray pick-and-pluck foam is too soft and compressible for this purpose. I'm looking for a source to buy sheets or blocks of a very dense black foam that can be cut to my custom shapes with a hot wire knife.

Where to start looking for rail cargo rates? I need to move about a shipping container worth of stuff from one side of the USA to the other. (DC to Fan Francisco). I have been told several times that rail is the cheapest, but I can't find much information about how to do it.

I need some new men's cargo shorts. I used to get
these Woolrich shorts, except they had a drawstring. I want the drawstring. I need the drawstring. I love the drawstring.
I also want a short inseam (6"). Long shorts that come to my knees make me feel like I'm 5 years old.
Tried LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Old Navy, REI, Land's End, Gap, and J Crew, but it all ended in sadness and despair. Ask Metafilter, please show me that there is still sunshine in this world.
