Can I salvage my college career in my final year?

I'm about to enter my senior year of college as a Computer Science major with pretty much the worst profile possible: a just-above-being-kicked-out GPA, no internships or relevant experience, no extracurriculars, no well-developed skills. Is there any way I can make myself employable in the next 10 months? [more inside]

Should I Apply For Training Jobs If I Have Panic Attacks When I Train?

One of the primary roles in my last job was training. At some point I started having panic attacks when I began my training sessions, which was a cause of real distress in the moment, but also longer term as I was now worried about my ability to do my job. Now that my company has closed down, I'm looking for a new job, and I've become aware that I'm subtly discounting opportunities which involve training out of fears related to panic attacks. I really don't think I can afford to overlook these positions in the current job market, but my brain keeps imagining turning up at a new job and having a panic attack in front of a whole new group of people, and naturally things grind to a halt from there. Any thoughts, advice or previous experience would be most welcome; comprehensive history inside. [more inside]

Reluctance to stay in academia: is this burnout or a sign?

I'm in the last stretch of my PhD in the UK, with a month left before I submit my thesis. I also have a full-time job as a lecturer. I enjoy and am energised by teaching but am increasingly reluctant to focus on research. Part of this is probably exhaustion from the PhD, and I know I shouldn't make any decisions now, but part of it feels like genuine dislike of the work and skepticism of its value. What do I need to consider, post-submission, in evaluating my future? [more inside]

Technical or Professional certifications a non-IT professional

Are there any technical or professional certificates that a non-IT professional could obtain that would be appealing to future employers? I'm in my mid-30s and all of my work experience has involved non-technical office work. I'm currently a manager (like, actual manager, not an office manager) of one of the branch offices of a small company and oversee a small staff, but I'm looking for a change of scenery. Other than an MBA, are there any certifications (whether professional or technical) that a beginner can obtain that would be attractive to potential employers? If it matters, I currently make in the mid $50s and would like my next job to pay the same or more. I know, I know... Thanks in advance!

Career question: how to transition out of nonprofit track?

I have worked for the federal government for five years (2 on Capitol Hill and 3 in SLC) and also for a well respected local nonprofit here in Salt Lake City, UT for the past two years. I'm Associate Director and things are good. However, unless I become Exec. Director there isn't much upward mobility. Plus, I wrote another question earlier this year about avoiding burnout, which is a problem with nonprofits, long hours, small staffs, etc. What I'm saying is I can't see working in the nonprofit world long term. I don't really see myself transferring to another nonprofit in town either. [more inside]
