My employer is impressed enough with my work that they want to promote me into a position which would ordinarily make for a great career move. I, however, am planning on leaving in a little over a year to earn a degree in a completely different field, and thus have no interest in the job (for reasons explained after the jump.) How do I diplomatically tell them no without jeopardizing my current position, and how much, if any, of my future plans do I mention to them? [more inside]

A local vocational school is offering a 15-week program to train students to become independent insurance adjusters and hopefully pass the Texas All Lines Adjuster exam. I'm sure the 15-week training program is insanely expensive, but supposedly the independent insurance adjuster gig is considered pretty lucrative--especially for someone like me without a college degree. Anyone have any advice for someone stuck in dead end job and considering plunking down the money and time to become an independent insurance adjuster? Can a guy make a living as licensed independent insurance adjuster?

I know this is my last year for my Hon. in Linguistics. I think I'm doing pretty bad. Many of my friends are going for grad schools or research programs in cognitive linguistic-issues. It feels like I'm left behind very much. Now I feel very stupid compare to my friends. Feeling very humiliated. I don't know what to think.
Does going to grad school really help one's career?
I don't think I can go to grad school with a terrible mark I have and I think I will have an unusually difficult roadmap for my possible career without having an MA.
Are people like me doomed because we don't go to grad school?
Are there any alternatives to grad schools for further education?

Please help ensure the success of my friends new school teaching job. It looks like an excellent job in many respects, but there are two stumbling blocks:
1. The boss is tricky, likely a corporate psychopath.
2. staff are expected to work approximately 30% longer than regular school on-site hours, for no extra pay or compensation.

I unwisely coasted through college, and here I sit, one year later, Communication degree and 2.8 GPA, grinding it out from menial job to menial job. I'm not here to make excuses, but rather to make up for past mistakes, as I finally discovered that inner drive that's pushing for me to pursue a career in Law. Other than acing the LSATs and getting some law firm internships under my belt, what other sorts of steps can I take to buffer my standing before applying to Law school?
