Decent full-time first job vs. waiting for career-forming opportunities

Hi helpful friends! I asked you how to get this amazing entry-level marketing job a few weeks ago and it worked! Well...I have a third interview! Thanks so much and expect a "how to do well in group interviews" question later :) I'm a business management student majoring in marketing. I'm pretty lucky for a soon-to-be-graduate...I have a couple of very exciting opportunities that could really shape my career. However, I'm confused as to which way to go. [more inside]

How on earth do you earn this much money?

This story about an IBM sales executive earning AUD $295,000 with a bonus of up to $1 million after allegedly earning $9 million in revenue for the firm, has made me really curious. In my industry, salaries top out around the low six figures. What does a job like this look like? [more inside]

New job selling laboratory equipment, but have no lab/science experience

I recently accepted a sales position within a company that sells laboratory equipment. (i.e. centrifuges, GC's, HPLC's, Thermal Cyclers, etc) I have no previous lab or science experience, so learning about a myriad of highly technical products/methods is a quite challenging. My main challenge comes from the fact that I need to engage in conversations with scientists, chemists, biologists on a daily basis. With no previous lab experience, I've been having a hard time talking to them on technical level. [more inside]

quitting now or later???

I just started a job at a finance leadership program at a Fortune 500 company. The program is extremely well known is 2 years long and is on the path to become an executive at this pretisgious company. I joined right after school ended (4 days) and never really had a strong inclination to go into finance. I knew that from the begining, while I know I do not want to stay there long-term as I am likley leaving after 2 years, I'd love to hear thoughts on whether I should leave the company now. Transition from technology to sales? Tell me your story.

I have 15 years of experience building web applications, programming in interesting subject domains and leading programming teams. I enjoy software development, but it doesn't utilize my social skills very well and I think I have a unique blend of technical talent and communication skills. I'm looking for the next thing and I'm wondering if it might be sales in a technical field. [more inside]
