Hot Yoga and Heart Rate Questions

I am trying to become healthy and fit. I recently tried a couple of weeks of hot yoga (not Bikram), and I really enjoyed it. However, I wonder how much I am getting out of it. When I do it, I notice that my heart rate goes up considerably, which I assume is a result of the heat and not the poses. Am I right? Either way, is this elevated heart rate the good kind, or would I need to supplement the yoga with another form of cardio, especially if weight is my goal? [more inside]

Is there a correlation between bl pr/puls rt and cardio exercise?

Had a good cardio exercise routine for four years. Blood pressure and pulse rate were healthy and constant. Stop the cardio routine and change to power lifting with occasional walking. Two years into the new (cardio free) exercise routine, blood pressure and pulse are the same. Health is good, diet constant, stress constant...all variables the same over the six year period.

An exercise plan that actually makes me sweat

So, I'm currently on a self-improvement kick that I'm looking to turn into a marathon. You might imagine that having cerebral palsy and being in a wheelchair adds a speedbump or two, and you'd be right. One of the things I've wanted to work on for a while has been my weight, flexibility and physical independence. I'm about 100 lbs overweight right now, and I know that much of the decrease in quality of life that I've experienced over the past few years has been my own doing. I either sit in the wheelchair, or a desk chair, or on a couch/bed. I never move. Ever. I know that needs to change, and I've spent considerable time researching wheelchair fitness, but haven't really found anything that fits my very particular needs. [more inside]

I have questions about cardio workout modifications...

I'm currently in my second week of the Insanity workout program. I survived the first week pretty well, but only because I modify many/most of the drills. As someone totally new to this kind of cardio program, I have no idea if the way I'm modifying the workout will help or hinder my progress, prevent or cause injuries, etc etc. Any tips for how to safely (and usefully!) modify the Insanity workout? My gym has several different types of cardio equipment. I've been using the recumbent bike for a while now, but recently tried the elliptical. Any downside to a combination cardio and strength workout?

Any downside to a combination cardio and strength workout? I have started doing combination cardio-strength workouts at my gym. A typical workout goes like this: 10-15 minutes on the treadmill, then I immediately do strength exercises, with no downtime between sets. For example, I’ll do a set of pull-ups, then straight to a set of chest fly on a machine, then a set of dips, then a set of ab crunches, then a set of shoulder presses on a machine, then back to the pull-ups, and the cycle repeats (though I often mix up the order depending on the availability of machines, and my mood).
