I drive an '09 Nissan Versa hatchback (base model). I'm sick of burning CD's and listening to the same songs, listening to songs from my phone echoed by the cup holder, and there's far too much feedback with an FM transmitter for my iPod. What I am looking to do is simply buy a stock Nissan Versa stereo with an auxiliary plug-in. Is/are there any additional components I would need aside from the new stock stereo itself? I plan on recruiting a technologically savvy friend who can install it for me.
And in case anyone is curious, I'd like to stick with a stock stereo as I'd intend to leave it in even when selling or trading in.

I have a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon with its original factory radio, a Kenwood KDC-MPV6022
. I've just now tried to use its Aux In feature by connecting a cable to its RCA cables as listed on page 31 of the manual
. According to Page 27 of the manual, the radio's configuration menu should have an Aux On/Off setting but this setting doesn't appear in my menu. I can hear the music from the iPhone but it's in addition to the other source (radio or CD), not instead of the other source, i.e. I hear both the iPhone and the other sound combined. I've tried connecting older iPods in case there were some equipment compatibility issues but the results were the same.
What am I missing here? The radio has the Aux In cables so clearly it's expecting the audio. Why doesn't the radio allow me to select it as an input?

Everyone seems to have a different opinion about best practice for charging iPads and iPods in the car. Two guys at best buy just told me exactly opposite things! Looking for people who either actually know what they're talking about or who have experience on the matter. Specific questions inside. [more inside]

Since returning from a Palo Duro Canyon (Texas) trip, I’ve been torturing myself: How the heck was my iPod stolen from my car? Is there such thing as an alarm-disabling device? Is The Flash alive and well, phasing through car doors to swiftly swipe 7+-year-old iPod Nanos?
I’m anal retentive about the alarm/locks. I always set the alarm. It’s ingrained in me.
The storage compartment between the front seats was opened and left open, and the auxiliary cable and iPod were taken. The back armrest was pulled down and left down. Nothing else was gone from the car – not the few dollars stuffed into the ashtray, not my camping gear, not my delicious fruit and nut hiking snacks. [more inside]

I am looking for a new Aux-In Cable (3.5mm, male to male) to use my mp3 player in my car. I had a couple of cheaper retractable ones, but they usually break after a short period of use. I live in a cold climate and the cord gets cold in the car for long periods of time and I think this has an affect on its life.
I have seen some people with thicker aux-in cables in their car and I have searched, but I can't seem to locate one for a decent price.
Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a thick (preferably white, but not critical) 3.5mm Aux-in cable?

The stereo on my Toyota Aygo has an iPod jack, but the sound is AWFUL. If it's loud enough to hear, there's as much hiss as there is music. I've tried every possible volume adjustments between iPod/stereo. Will one of these headphone amps
help? [more inside]

How can I avoid having my car broken into -- again?
I've had a GPS and an iPod stolen out of my car twice in the past three months. Assuming I buy replacements for one or both, how do I avoid going through this yet again in another three months? What have others found to be effective or ineffective, and are there any relevant stats or studies on any of this? My current best plan is to simply remove both from my car every time I get out (except in my garage); that'll be a PITA, but manageable. Are thieves going to see the mounts and break in anyway? If I leave them locked in the glove compartment instead, are they significantly less safe than on my person? If I simply mounted the GPS somewhere other than the windshield, as suggested by the office taking the report the second time, is that enough to make a difference? [more inside]

Swapping a car's stereo head unit: I would really like to replace my car's ailing Blaupunkt CD player with a more modern head unit, ideally one with a front aux-in for my iPhone. Before I embarked on this I thought it would (should!) be as simple as popping out the old HU, slotting the new one in and simply reconnecting the connector block. [more inside]

I want to get a decent stereo system in my car (an Isuzu Rodeo). Nothing too fancy, but decent. I got to thinking: could I just stick the iPod Hi-Fi

Ugh..after holding my breath to see the iPod integration with BMWs
, only to find out that it's a "cable securely integrated into your BMW’s glovebox", and by "securely integrated" they mean 12" of loose cable so my iPod can fly freely around the glovebox. Why can't someone make a car stereo that lets you slide in your iPod (or other device) as if it were an 8 track tape?
Is there some reason that car stereo's seem to lag so far behind other consumer devices in quality and features?
