I recently came upon my grandfather's WWII US Navy Canvas Dufflebag. It's gotten a little musty over years and years in the attic and needs to be cleaned. I'm concerned about washing his name off by just throwing it in a regular wash, but money's always a little tight and I try not to dry clean stuff unless it's absolutely necessary. Does anyone have any thoughts? Here's a couple pictures.

I need inspiration and advice for painting canvasses with acrylic paints. I have never painted like this before. I will be doing a 3 x 3 grid of canvases on a very tall white wall, and was thinking something super simple, like solid colors and/or abstract shapes. But I'm afraid of it looking really bad. Can you give advice for getting decent results, and also maybe find examples of something you think a beginner could do? [more inside]
What's a step up in quality from Vans sneakers? I like that they make plain, neutral-looking canvas sneakers, but I don't like that my shoes wear out in six months. I like real-life stores so that I can try on shoes and ask staff for help. What store should I go to in San Francisco? [more inside]

I have a canvas purse with a 5" rip at one seam. I'm hoping to get it repaired in time for a meeting I have on Tuesday morning. What’s the best option for fast repair? Google brings up Rainy Pass Repair, but their minimum turnaround is 2 weeks. I made an abortive attempt to get a repair a year ago, and was so embarrassed by the "of COURSE we don't repair such things here" snootiness of the clothing repair place I inquired at that I'm skittish. Should I be looking at a cobbler or something? Other ideas?
I bought a large batik tapestry hand-painted on lightweight canvas, with raw, unfinished edges. I'd like to hang it as opposed to frame it, but it has sharp creases from being folded in my luggage. I'd like to get largeish waxed canvas or waxed cotton shoulder/messenger bag. Large enough to hold a number of vinyl records (12x12), bigger is ok, smaller won't work. I'm looking for waxed cotton because it is waterproof and looks cool, but other fabrics would be ok if they don't have logos and are also waterproof.

I'm looking for an everyday, tote/briefcase-type bag; smallish, around 12x9" and maybe 5 or 6" wide, made of canvas and leather, hoping to keep the price below $125. Any suggestions? I saw something on the train today that looked perfect, but I can't find it online. The brand was "Yosemite", which is tough to google. The logo on the label was a stylized sun with a face. Can anyone help me find that company or a different bag that fits the bill? [more inside]
