Asking for your ideas about what it'd be smart and reasonable to ask for from the program director if your chosen graduate school cancelled a program after sending out acceptances. I got word less than a month from when the program would have begun. There is the potential that this program would start two semesters from now. A phone conversation with their team confirmed that my acceptance would carry over, but I am not confident that this program will start on that timeline, and am applying to other programs, mostly for a fall start. Why are there no decent noise cancellation apps available? Lots of white noise apps, but not much in the way of noise cancellation. Shouldnt it be possible to take advantage of the powerful processors of modern cellphones and perhaps pair with a pair of headphones and compete with the specialty headphones or ear buds?
I will likely need to cancel a work-related conference trip next week for medical reasons. Can I expect reimbursement for the money I've already spent? Bonus: my cancellation will be for mental health reasons, documented by my team of doctors. Does your workplace have policies around this? I am in the state of Massachusetts.
The vehicle I'm considering purchasing has Active Noise Cancelation, a feature that apparently can't be turned off. I'm worried that it might be disturbing to my dogs but don't really understand how it works. I have heard people complain about feeling like they need to pop their ears when using the Bose noise canceling headphones and wonder what is at work there. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'll put the manufacturer's description of the system inside. [more inside]
I went to namecheap tonight to give up a domain I no longer need. It expires in 20 days, so I figured I would just get rid of it now. [more inside]

I cancelled my gym membership effective today, and I have signed proof. However, they claimed that I will owe them an annual fee tomorrow October 1. Can I dispute this with a chargeback? I told them I was not paying it, and they said it had already been arranged. My contract says the annual fee is charged October 1.
I got a quote to remodel part of my house a few days ago. I signed a handwritten contract in my home. I just got a MUCH lower bid on it. Can I back out of the first contract? [more inside]
My client bought a gift certificate for Valentine's day. She made an appointment/reservation with me over 3 weeks ago, to redeem the certificate tomorrow. She didn't respond to any reminders until 2pm today. Do I charge her a cancellation fee, as outlined in my company policy? [more inside]

I have always paid for my school out of pocket. I need to pay for about $3,000 in school fees so I can try and finish my BA. I did the FAFSA, but my school has me on financial aid cancellation because I haven’t made ‘significant progress’ and completed my degree in the time allotted. How do I find a good, reasonable loan so I can get to the finish line and not have much debt? [more inside]
I work in a data center, and when amongst the racks the noise is pretty tremendous - gotta lean in towards the person you're talking to just to hear them, ear plugs are a must for any long-term work if you don't have other coverage. So I'm looking for good headphones in the 100-150 dollar range that have either active or very effective passive noise cancellation/reduction. The restriction - no earbuds, I hate 'em. Over-ear cans are the way to go. The Sennheiser 280 is a classic standby, but I can't find any specifics on how much white-noise type sound they block. The 429/439s look pretty swank as well, but once again, can't find any details beyond nebulous claims of 'sound isolation'. Anyone in a similar noise environment have recommendations?
I arranged a date with one guy, then had another absolutely fantastic date in the interim, & really want to focus on that. Should I cancel the other date? [more inside]
Since I've hit my mid-late 20s, a pattern has developed: A woman and I express mutual interest; I ask for her number or she gives it to me on her own; a first date is arranged; at the last minute, she cancels it. I know this isn't unheard of, but it's happening so often and so consistently that it's making me paranoid and demoralized, and I'm not sure how to proceed. [more inside]
What should I do about a jewelry company trying to back out of a sale which I already paid for? I ordered online a small piece of custom gold jewelry this week, paying the price coded into the seller's own website. Now the seller's "customer service" staff has emailed me to say the price of gold went up and they can't sell me the piece at the price I paid. [more inside]
Airline "no show" cancellation filter: my friend and his family missed a flight last night from Montreal to London. The airline, British Airways, have told them that not only have they forfeited those tickets as a result, but also all the tickets on their numerous connecting flights. Is there anything they can do to salvage their tickets? [more inside]
The Great Blizzard of Christmas 2010 has severely derailed my plans (love snow as I do). I was supposed to fly from Newark to Hong Kong on Dec. 26th at 3:30, arrive in HK at 8:30pm Dec 27th, then fly Air Asia Hong Kong-Bangkok on the morning of Dec. 28th with a connecting flight immediately following from Bangkok - Luang Prabang, Laos. Newark is supposed to get a foot plus of snow tomorrow. I am feeling a little screwed. Is anyone out there skilled at making the best of this kind of situation? I've never dealt with it before, and have spent the last eight hours trying to make something work. Details below. [more inside]

Posting for a friend: My friend was bad about paying bills on time for a credit card over a long period of time (multiple years). It's one of the major blemishes on their credit score right now and the issuer has just decided to cancel their card. The question is, how much will the issuer canceling the credit card be on my friend's credit score, and what can they do? [more inside]

Strauss Without Singing - I'm a huge fan of Strauss' orchestra compositions but dislike the opera singing. I know this will make me sound unclassy but I have to ask: is there an orchestra recording of "Four Last Songs" that is just the orchestration and no voice? I've looked and can not find. And additionally, if I wanted to do it m'self - what software/hardware exists to either cancel out voice from music, and music from voice? THANKS AS ALWAYS.
