Should I pay my cellphone cancellation fee? I moved out of Canada. I canceled my landline, internet, etc but I needed my cell phone for a while while moving. I was slow paying the bill because I was busy, but I did indeed pay off all bills. However, because I was late they sent me a cancellation notice which I didn't protest because I needed to cancel the plan at that point anyway. Now they want $550 in cancellation fees. Since I've moved to the US, what are the ramifications of simply not paying? Let's assume I'm planning on staying 5+ years here so if and when I return to Canada any complaints on my credit record will be very old news. Can/will they take me to court? The company has not been provided any information on my new address as I get my bills by postal forwarding via my old address.

How can I help keep Pushing Daisies from being canceled? There is minor talk going around that my favorite show ever could be canceled for mediocre ratings, which can easily be attributed to the show's quirkiness and uniqueness This is the only show I have ever been truly excited for, and I want to help it. Any suggestions? And I am asking for your direct help: please watch it Wednesdays at 8/9c on ABC.

PeoplePC, a cut-rate ISP, known for making it very difficult for people to cancel their accounts, is, as might be expected, making it difficult for a relative to cancel his account. The task has fallen to me. I've googled a bit about this, but wonder if anyone here has experience or knows a good way of getting this cleanly and quickly done. Thank You.

How to solve the GREs-- not the test, but the registration! What happens if I don't show up to the test? I signed up for the GRE for this Saturday. On Monday, I realized that the test narrowly overlaps with another test, and that I should reschedule the test. I tried to reschedule on Tuesday, three full days before the test --- or so I thought. It turns out that "three full days" means "three full days not including the test date or the cancellation date". In other words: I should have canceled five full days before the test.

Now I have a GRE looming ahead of me in the next two days, I can't cancel it, and I'm pretty sure that I'll be 200% more prepared if I take it, oh, next week (I spent most of my time memorizing vocab, not taking practice tests). Here's my question:

1) Is there anyway to cancel/reschedule?
2) If not, what happens if I don't show up? Will not showing up on Saturday mean that I still can't take a GRE again until October? Or since I didn't take the test at all, would it be possible to sign up for another GRE next next week (in September) or so?

I tried to look online and to call, but I was faced with long, long wait times (ten minutes+ just to navigate the phone menus?) and hazy details. I'm hoping someone who has been in a similar situation/knows the details can shed some light on my questions.

I was running a delete query in SQL Server 2005 on a pretty slow machine with low resources on a pretty big database table. After about 2.5 hours, I got a message that I was running low on disk space and when I checked, drive C had 5MB free out of 75GB.
Anyway, I went to cancel the query and here I sit, one hour later and it still says "Canceling Query". Am I going to have to wait another hour and a half for this? Will any of the deletes have been committed or did I just waste 3 and a half hours of time?

Breaking up with MySpace, and I want my stuff back.

Canceling my MySpace account. Is there a way to save/export/preserve the content of my MySpace blog? Coming to my senses and canceling my MySpace account. However, my MySpace blog has turned out to be a concise and amusing record of the last couple of years, and I'd like to preserve it in some form. Is there a relatively easy way to do this, or am I looking forward to interminable copying and pasting? It's mostly for me, but bonus points if friends could also save it easily if they wanted to.

I tried subscribing to the the RSS feed, thinking I could just save it in the reader, but it only "fed" the last 10 entries, and I suspect it would disappear once I cancel the account. Also, the links in the blog postings don't show up as links in the reader. So that doesn't seem like the best solution.

I'm relatively savvy about such things, but I'm drawing a blank here and it's embarrassing. I blame the user-unfriendliness of MySpace.

Canceling gym membership, problems with their billing company... When I joined my gym they told me that the only way I could pay was to use their billing company who would directly debit my account each month on a certain day, the 20th of the month. If I wanted to cancel my membership I could at any time but the billing company requires 30 days to cancel a membership. Basically if I cancelled on the 22nd I would have to pay for an additional month the NEXT 20th. Ok I can work with that I think.

I go to cancel my membership, which they require in writing, and send them an email on the 18th. I hear nothing from them, and write them another email on the 25th. They tell me that they never received the first email, and since I am cancelling on the 25th I must pay for an additional month due to their billing companies cancellation policy.

This seems pretty shitty to me, as I have no contract or agreement with their billing policy. They say they talked to this company and there is no way around getting charged for next month. I told the manager he could write me a check for the $40 I am going to be billed, so it would get taken out of my account but I would be reimbursed by him. No dice.

What else can I do? This is not on a credit card, its on a bank account. Can I tell my bank to decline any debits from a certain person? If I do this could the gym / billing agency file anything against me credit wise?

Closing Amex Account

How do I go about closing my American Express credit card account? I've read about the pros and cons of canceling a credit account, and I've decided that my American Express account is no longer necessary. What's the best way for me to go about canceling it? I've heard from others that Amex gives you absolutely no hassle cancelling, which is encouraging, but considering I've never cancelled a credit account, I'm not sure how to go about it.

Noise cancelling music

Is there a CD of music that's designed to cancel ambient noise when played on an iPod or mp3 player, particularly to block out conversations? On a recent flight, I sat next to some people who talked (loudly) the entire way. My Creative Zen earbuds did a good job of blocking them out when I played music on my iPod, but I could hear them talking between songs or in lulls. I was thinking there must be a soundtrack or CD that's designed to cancel ambient noise and soothe the soul. I know I should really just go ahead and invest in Bose headphones...

God forgive me - I need to delete then retrieve a MySpace URL

If I delete a MySpace profile, and wait the stated 48 hours for the account to become inactive, can I grab the username and URL again and set up a new page with the same name? I have searched the AskMeFi archive but can't seem to find anyone who's encountered this issue. I have been asked to set up a MySpace page (God forgive me) for a music project and only after setting up the profile realised that it should have been in the music section, which seems to grant a few extra facilities special to bands.

I have already requested deletion but I have some time to make a decision, as MySpace demands that I click on a link in an e-mail to actually confirm deletion. The e-mail says: "We will cancel your account within 48 hours, after which you will no longer be able to log in. Please note that cancelled accounts may not be reactivated and all of your account information, including your friend network, will be removed from MySpace."

What it doesn't say is whether or not I (or someone else) will be able to grab the URL and username, whether it will be permanently blocked out, or whether it will be blocked out for a long time.

Please help me change/cancel my NWA reservation without paying service fees.

I bought a non-refundable plane ticket on Sunday night from Northwest Airlines. It's now Tuesday afternoon and I need to make a change to my reservation. I know I can easily do this by paying their $100 service fee, but I'm trying to avoid this. Any help is appreciated. Can I cancel my reservation and get a credit that I can use to re-book this flight?

I read their "Customer's First" policy and it states that full refunds are available until midnight on the day after a reservation has been made. Anyone have experience with NWA agents bending this policy to include more than one day?

My flight is not until mid-November so it's not like it's a last minute booking.

CANCELLING a 1and1 hosting account

Have you CANCELLED your 1and1 account successfully (by success I mean they stopped charging you and they released the domains registered through them)? If so, what steps did you follow?? I haven't started the process yet -- just researching right now -- but I've read a lot of 1and 1 cancellation horror stories here and elsewhere.

What to do about a now-uneeded airline ticket/reservation?

I bought two non-refundable airline tickets, now one of us will not be going. What to do about that ticket? My girlfriend and I were going to fly to my brother's wedding two weeks from now. The wedding is still on, the girl and I are not - I'll be flying solo now, literally as well as figuratively.

I purchased tickets online to get a special "internet rate", but they are non-refundable. I have received an emailed "ticketless confirmation" and must print my boarding pass prior to checking in.

Do I:

a) print my pass, just show up without her or her pass, and fly;
b) cancel her ticket (eating the fare, which I will anyway);
c) print my pass, show up and let someone (who?) know I'm flying but she's not, and fly
d)none of the above.

I'd like the least potential hassle from TSA due to a late change in plans, so I'm leaning towards just cancelling her ticket, but...there's a very slight chance that she may come after all; and I may not be able to cancel just her ticket - since they were purchased together.

Opinions (relevant to the ticket situation, that is) are fine, pointers to relevant guidelines are better. Details: Southwest Airlines, Denver to KC, flying just a few days after September 11th.

ApartmentLeaseFilter: I live in one of several complexes operated by one company. We're moving out because of lack of the incompetence of said company, help me out of the last month of rent, either by being a pain-in-the-ass, or legally. Since we moved in, the office nearest our apartment has "changed" hours to a couple a day, and they're at random times such that it's impossible to guess when someone will be there. Recently, a fedex package was delivered to the office, rather than to my apartment. When I saw the package was delivered, I tried the main office, I was told that nobody with that name works in the office... a week later, after bitching out Fedex, filing a claim, and apologizing profusely to the client whose work depended on the package, I found out that the package had been delivered to the office that's usually closed, and promptly forgotten about.

It's nearly impossible to get any information from them, whenever I call, they tell me that all of the paperwork is over at the other office, and they'll call back later (which they don't) (hence why I'm taking the "asshole" route).

I've lost one client because of the fedex fiasco, and attempting to move out is a pain, because I can't get a hold of anyone to discuss it.

I'm thinking that a large "THESE APARTMENTS TREAT THEIR RESIDENTS POORLY, EMAIL ME FOR DETAILS" sign, attached to the back of my pickup and parked on the street is a nice start at being a pain-in-the-ass... is there anything else I could to to make them want me out so much that they'll cancel my lease early?
