It's time to do this once and for all

So, for a variety of reasons, I was never very good about my dental care regimen. This has come to mean that, at 24, I have one cracked tooth, two chipped ones covered with veneers, two that have been pulled, a mouth full of cavities, gum disease and on-and-off pain in different teeth. I'm so tired of this. I know it's horrible to think this way, but the more time that passes, the less I feel like even brushing my teeth ( I only do it when I have to go out at this point). The guilt and anxiety are wrecking me psychologically as is the constant threat of intractable pain. I've tried to get things done the usual way- one appointment/procedure at a time, when I could afford it and had the emotional fortitude to go through with them. The problem is that my last two or three appointments- for root canals and fillings- have gone terribly. The anaesthetic never, ever worked, even after multiple injections, and even with nitrous. My last visit for a root canal was the first time I ever had the distinct displeasure of knowing what a drill on one's nerve feels like. I now shudder at the mere sound of a drill or anything that sounds like it. [more inside]

Ship Tunnel

According to this article the Norwegians are planning on building the worlds first ship tunnel. I'm curious how a ship tunnel differs from a canal tunnel. I don't thinks the size matters since the Rove Tunnel is longer than the proposed Norwegian tunnel and nearly as wide. A friend argued that a ship tunnel is connected to the Ocean and consequently subject to tides whatnot. I don't find this persuasive since the Rove tunnel connects to the Mediterranean. What is the difference between a ship tunnel and canal tunnel that allows to claim they are making the first ship tunnel?

Papa Needs a Brand New Crown

Dental filter: I just visited a dentist who told me that I chipped one of my molars and that I'd need a crown for it. He said that since I'm not really having pain associated with it (it's a little sensitive, but that's it) I don't need to have a root canal. Is getting a crown instead of a root canal wise? dental insurance with no waiting period?

I need to have a root canal, build-up and crown done on a molar - almost $2,000 worth of work. I have no dental insurance. Is there any private dental insurance I can buy, either in Idaho or New Jersey, that doesn't have a waiting period for this kind of work? [more inside]

Cheaper root canal?

Root Canals for cheaper? I have to get two root canals asap. I live in New York, and have a dental plan that saves a lot, but they are still a whopping 1300 each with the crown. I have heard that people travel to Texas, Mexico, etc. to get them done. Is this cheaper? Safe? Any suggestions for how to afford this? Would a better insurance plan like Blue Cross Blue Shield etc be better for covering these? Thank you so much!!!
